[3] The Body

I wake up, still in Steve's clothes and a hangover. My heads pounding and I feel sick. I groan and get out of bed. I go to the bathroom and have a quick shower then brush my teeth. I get changed and skate to school slower than usual. Once I get in I see Jonathan and he looks like a mess.

"Hey, how are you?" I ask him and he shrugs.
"I'm managing." He says and I hug him tightly and he hugs me back tight.
"How's your mom..?" I ask her.
"She's saying Wills talking to her through the lights. She's a mess." He says looking upset.
"Im sorry. It just be difficult." I say and the bell rings. I go to class and put my hand in my bag to get a pen when I feel a piece of paper. I pull it out and see that it's a note:

I'll see you later at your house, don't shoot me.

I laugh at his comment and get out a pen and start writing. The day drags. For some reason I'm excited to see him.

At lunch, I sit down with Steve, Nancy, Tommy and Carol.
"Where's Barb?" I ask Nancy.
"I don't know." She says looking slightly tense.
"Ask them." I whisper to Nancy referring to Tommy and Carol.
"Hey Tommy, when you left, did you see Barb?" Nancy asks.
"What?" He asks.
"Barbara. She's not here today." Nancy says.
"I seriously have no idea who you're talking about." Tommy snickers.
"Come on, don't be an ass. Did you see her leave last night or not?" Steve asks him.
"No, she was gone when we left." Tommy says.
"Probably couldn't stand listening to all that moaning." Carol says and mocks Nancy moaning Steve's name. They had sex last night. I don't know why but it made me upset and mad. I felt tears pooling up in my eyes. I got up and ran out of the cafeteria and to the girls bathroom. I got tissue and rubbed my eyes.

I'm about to leave after school when I see Jonathan and Steve arguing. I walk over to see what's going on when I see Jonathan looking scared and upset.

"What's going on?" I ask.
"Here she is!" Carol says and hands me photos of me skating home and falling off my skateboard. Once catches my eye, it was a figure standing I front of me. My heart drops and I put it in the bag.
"You followed me home?" I ask.
"I was looking for my brother." Jonathan says.
"No. This is called stalking." Steve says.
"What's going on?" Nancy asks coming over.
"Here's the starring lady." Tommy says.
"What?" Nancy asks looking at me for an explanation.
"This creep was spying on us last night." Carol says and takes a picture and hands it to Nancy, "He was probably going to save this one for later."
By her reaction, I can tell it was a picture of something she was ashamed of. She looked at Jonathan confused.
"See, you can tell that he knows it was wrong, but that's the thing about perverts. It's hardwired into them. They just can't help themselves." Steve rips up the photos and throws them on the floor and walks towards his bag.

"So, we'll just have to take away his toy." Steve asks referring to his camera. I get that what he did was messed up, but it was a bit extreme.

"No, please, not the camera." Jonathan says. Steve gets his camera and pretends to give it to him the drops it making it break. I feel bad for him. I know how long it took him to save up for it.
"Steve!" I yell at him and pick up his camera. They all leave and I look at Jonathan.
"I'm sorry." He mouths to me and I walk off.

Once I get home I get dressed to look somewhat decent for him when the phone rings.

"Hello?"
"Hey, it's Dustin. Mike kept the girl and she has superpowers and knows where Will is and we are going to look for him and-"
"Woah, slow down. The girl has powers?"
"I'll explain later, just meet us at the back of Mikes house at 3:15."
"Dustin-"
He hangs up and I groan and kick the wall knowing I have to check on them. I run out the door and bump into Steve.

"Shit, sorry." I say.
"It's fine, uh... are you okay? Where are you going?" He asks.
"Nowhere. I just... need to go, bye!" I say and walk off.
"But I thought we were gonna talk!" Steve shouts.
"Come at 12 am and be very quiet!" I shout back and run to the Wheelers house. Honestly, I was a bit upset about what he did to Jonathan.

I meet the boys and the girl there.
"Dustin! I thought this was supposed to stay between us!" Lucas shouts.
"She's a member of the party! She deserves to know." Dustin says.
"And plus I want to come to make sure you don't do anything stupid." I say and get on the back of Dustin's bike.

Dustin tells me their plan and we start walking in the woods.
"So she has powers?" I ask.
"She's a freak." Lucas says.
"Lucas." I say in a stern voice. The rest of the walk is silent, except Mike and El. They talked the entire time.

Once we got to where we needed it was already dark. El took us to where Will was.
"Here." She said taking us to Wills house.
"Yeah, this is where Will lives?" I say confused.
"Hiding." El says.
"No, no. This is where he lives. He's missing from here. Understand?" Mike says.
"What are we going here?" Lucas asks irritated.
"She said he's hiding here." Mike says.
"Um... no!" Lucas yells
"I swear, if we walked all the way out here for nothing." Dustin says out of breath.
"That's exactly what we did! I told you she didn't know what the hell she was talking about!" Lucas yells when I hear faint sirens.
"Shut up!" I shout and the sirens get louder. I climb on the back of Dustin's bike and we go towards the sound. We go fast and hide behind a firetruck. I see my dad walking towards the lake. I go over there to take a closer look.

"Lizzy, what the hell are you doing here?" He asks and I see them pull Wills body out of the river. My heart sinks of what Jonathan will think and that Will didn't deserve that. I realise the kids are watching. My eyes full with tears and I look back at the kids who all have tears in their eyes. I look back at the body as tears fall down my cheeks. My dad puts his arms around me as I cry.

We both go home and I lock myself in my room just thinking. I look in the drawer by my nightstand and pull out a drawing that Will did for me.

Flashback

I skate to the park and see these older boys picking on Will calling him 'queer' and a 'fag'.
"Hey!" I shout helping Will up as he's crying on the floor. I get the pocket blade out of my coat and threaten them with it making then run away.

"Don't listen to them. They don't know what the hell they're talking about." I say smiling at him. He hugs me and I take him home.

End of flashback

It was a drawing of me in a superhero costume fighting of the people bullying him. I sigh and tears drop onto the piece of paper. I hear tapping on the window and see Steve.

"Go away." I say. I'm mad at him for how he acted with Jonathan. Especially, now that his brother has died. Steve manages to open the window.
"Get out!" I say and he sighs seeing that I'm upset.
"Are you okay?" He asks and i completely loose it. I start hitting him in the chest crying.
"No! Will Byers is dead and the way you acted with Jonathan? You're such an asshole and to think that you were okay? I thought maybe you aren't an asshole like your friends are. Your friends call me a freak, a snitch and I thought you were different. But, obviously not!" I yell. He looks angry but also sympathetic.
"I'm sorry." He says holding me tightly resting his head on mine. I look up at him and he holds the cut I have on my cheek.

"What happened?" He asks me.
"I fell of my skateboard.." I say.

STEVES POV

I hold the wound she has on her cheek with my hand. I look down at her glossy eyes. She's so beautiful. I lean down and kiss her. What am I doing? I'm with Nancy! I start kissing her deeply and we both sit on her bed. She lays down and we make out for about 10 minutes when we hear her dad walking around.

LIZZYS POV

"Shit! Hide in my closet!" I whisper shout and he does so. I turn off my lamp and pretend to be asleep. My dad walks in and sees that I'm asleep so he leaves.
"You can come out now." I whisper and he comes out and looks around cautiously. He climbs back onto my bed and tries to kiss me again when I stop him and push him away.
"What's wrong?" He asks.
"I'm sorry. It's just your my bestfriends boyfriend and..."
"Yeah, whatever." He says and storms out. Was he seriously mad?! He's such an asshole!
