Painful Halloween- chapter 6

Halloween is around the corner and before I know it٫ it's a day away. Me and my friends are talking about the plan to meet up at Alexa's. Then Zoe asks the question٫ "Amiliea. What's your costume?"

I realize I don't even have a costume٫ I look in her eyes with worry. "Oh. I totally forgot about that." I say٫ Alexa responding with٫ "girl٫ go to the store right now. You have to have something to wear or you're going to miss out!"

I look to her٫ then to Zuri٫ who's looking me straight in the eye. She can tell I feel stresssed and offers to walk me home. I'm surprised but agree. "Bye than٫" Zoe and Alexa giggle. Me and Zuri say bye and walk over to my house to ask for some money.

A minute or two later٫ feeling desperate to hold Zuri's hand I control myself. But she intertwines our fingers casually and keeps walking. I look in her eyes with surprise and comfort٫ I'm feeling safe and all my stress fades as we continue walking together.

I finally walk up to my door pulling out my keys. I walk in welcoming Zuri. Zuri- is in my house. We hold eye contact for a second and than I start walking into the living room calling for my mom.

"Mom!" I shout at an appropriate volume. "Yes dear?" my mom says back to me٫ "can I have some money? I haven't got a costume yet so I need to buy one." "Oh of course. Here you go sweetie. You better have something in mind٫ I don't want you missing out. You should've had a costume by now."
My mom seems a bit shocked٫ but she gives me the money.

"I know٫ thank you mom." I say. "you're welcome." I take Zuri's hand as we walk out the door and I lead her to a store nearby. "So٫ what do you have in mind Amiliea?" Zuri looks at me٫ "Hm?"

"For your costume." she looks me in the eye as she holds my hand٫ "Oh. I don't really know. What do you think I should be?" I reply to her as we walk around the store looking for the halloween section.

"How about Red Riding Hood? do you like her?" she says to me and I respond with; "oh٫ umm- no not much." We see the costumes and I look at a few not interested in any. "Alright. Oh look٫ heres a devil costume." Zuri looks at me holding it. "I don't wanna be stubborn٫ but no." I tell her as I look at more٫ "Oo! what about Belle? from Beauty and the beast."

I think about it for a second while looking at the costume. "Mm٫ no. I want something darker." I say٫ she looks me dead in my eyes and says; "Amiliea٫ you have to find something to wear and clearly all these are just not very good. Belle is probably the best you'll get."

We hold eye contact as I think about it٫ agreeing with her in my head than looking at my options. "Ok٫ fine. I'll take this one." I surrender to my defeat knowing that especially at this kind of store٫ there aren't very good costumes.

"Yay! good. Pay for it and walk me home." Zuri smiles and I go to checkout the costume. We leave the store holding hands again.

My stomach still feels like butterflies when Zuri waves good bye to me. "Thank you for coming with me!" I shout to her before she closes her door٫ "you're welcome!" She smiles and shuts the door.

I walk home by myself feeling grateful to have Zuri in my life٫ I think about her all the way home.
