[I miss you, I'm sorry by Gracie Abrams]
Taylor had looked up briefly when she felt someone watching her, it was strange. She was fairly used to it since it came with the fame, people watching wherever she went usually, but it didn't feel like an excited or star struck fan, it felt heavy.
And that's when she looked up and saw Katie looking at her in disbelief. She was about to open her mouth to say something, trying desperately to think up even a single world but nothing came, and by the time she realized what was happening, Katie was already headed to the door.
Taylor stood up and it felt like her feet were stuck in mud. She couldn't move them, only to be broken out of her thoughts about it when Abby's hand landed gently on her forearm and snapped her back to a reality where she wasn't chasing Katie down the sidewalk.
"Tay," Abby cautioned when the blonde inhaled a shaky breath, "She's already gone."
"Yeah," Taylor swallowed and sat back down. She wanted to say more, to run after her, but what was the point? It wasn't like they were much of anything, it wasn't like she lived in the city, it wasn't like Katie owed her anything at all.
Katie literally ran home. She rounded the corner, almost running into some guy who felt double her height, and up the stairs as quickly as possible. Kara had just finished unlocking the door when she got there, and Kate followed in behind the younger twin and tried to catch her breath.
"Was someone chasing you?" Kara asked with concern. She made sure the door was locked behind them and tugged on it just to double check, satisfied with the fact it didn't move as she slipped her shoes off.
"Just the ghosts of girlfriends past," Katie sunk down against her fridge and pulled her knees close, "My- shit, she actually was there."
"She was?" Kara asked in disbelief. She thought maybe Audrey had seen someone similar, but for Taylor to actually be there of all places... it was too much, really.
"Yep," Kate nodded, staring at the tile of her kitchen floor which was really the only thing that divided the single room of living space she had, "Okay, how much do I drink? Do I drink? Probably shouldn't... do you want to drink? Oh my god, I need like... something strong."
"Absolutely not," Kara opened Katie's cupboards and found the two mugs she had seen before. One had the name of the last studio Katie filmed at on it (potentially stolen), the other was chipped and she had got it on sale from the dollar store, "You have tea, right?"
"I'm not an animal, Kara," Katie mumbled. She lifted her chin from where it rested between her knees and pointed to the cupboard to the left of the sink.
A cup of tea later is when Katie's phone buzzed and she picked it up without looking at the caller information because it was her birthday and she'd already gotten a half dozen texts since midnight hit. She had crawled under the blanket on the couch next to her sister and Kara put a movie disc into Katie's laptop so that she could take her mind of 'she who shall not be named'.
"Hello?" Katie said after accepting the call, it was dark and her eyes were almost crossing. She was pretty much ready for bed, life was more exhausting than usual.
Shit.
Taylor didn't think the birthday girl would actually pick up when she'd hit call on her contact information. That line between them hadn't rang in years, "Katie?"
"Yeah?" Katie mumbled. Her eyebrows furrowed ever so softly at the voice but she thought it sounded kind of like her cousin on her dad's side did when she was really sick.
