[Lover by Taylor Swift]
Taylor sat at their dining room table next to her girlfriend. She looked at their various friends surrounding them and tried to keep with the commentary. Her brother and his girlfriend, Audrey and Joel, Kara and Patrick, Abigail and her somewhat new boyfriend Charles were there with them.
They had all come to Los Angeles to help them celebrate the first week of owning their own home together, it had officially become theirs on the first week of September and they were lucky everyone could make it. Kara's pregnancy was far enough along that she soon wouldn't be allowed to fly and with the upcoming birth of her identical twin girls, something they found hilarious, she wouldn't be able to visit for a while.
There were boxes everywhere, guest bedrooms barely made up and the pull out couch had to be used to accommodate them all since one of the bedrooms had become jammed full of music equipment almost immediately upon moving in. The table was set with paper plates and there was so many store bought pies on the counter because every couple accidentally thought they were supposed to bring dessert, including the new homeowners.
Even though it was a little chaotic, when she felt Katie's hand go on her arm and the slightly younger blonde lean over to whisper a joke into her ear, she knew she was right where she belonged. Their house, their friends, their life- together.
"Stop it," Taylor chuckled softly regarding Katie's dirty joke and then went back to listening to Joel talk. Katie smiled at her and then dipped her fork back into the lo-mein noodles on the top of her plate, satisfied that she had gotten a reaction out of the singer. She wanted Taylor's attention all of the time, it was a bit of a problem. The good news was that Taylor was just as clingy.
"Joel, none of them care about the right consistency for a roux," Audrey reminded him as they approached the third minute of him failing to eat in exchange for making gestures to explain the process.
"So forty percent of the people at this table are engaged," Joel looked at Katie after he sighed, he was a constant talker and couldn't handle a quiet room. They'd been back together almost ten months and yet the actress knew where that question was headed because just the other day, Taylor's mom brought it up when they went to see her, "When are you making it sixty?"
"Joel, that's so insensitive," Audrey scolded him, "Theo literally died."
"It's fine," Katherine sheepishly laughed and reached for her water glass as a distraction tactic, "Not now, right?"
Her glance at Taylor made her nod, "Yep, not right now. Anyways, how do you like our new chandelier?"
Everyone's heads turned up to look at it except for Austin's, "This is like the eighteenth and a half time you've gotten back together, please just get married before we all have to sit through another decade of I miss her, I'm sorry that I did that, blah blah blah. Same crap."
"Ouch!" Taylor opened her mouth in surprise to him, "It has not been eighteen and a half times!"
Katie started counting on her fingers and Taylor quickly wrapped her hand around it to get her to stop. It did not help her point and she was sure her girlfriend had accidentally used more fingers than needed.
"He's got a point," Kara scooped some rice onto her fork, "Everyone at this table except maybe Charles is so tired of listening to your relationship drama."
"We get it, we're a train wreck. I will apologize on behalf of both of us— but guys! We have a house now, even if we do go down in flames we'll still have to sit down with our lawyers like real adults. She can leave me via stationary but she'll have to look me in the eye when I have Los Angeles' scariest lawyer sitting next to me."
