"You're an idiot," that felt like defeat, "And I love you for it."

Katie smiled at Taylor's words, not sure if she heard them correctly. It should've been that big kiss at the end of the movies, Katie was all too familiar with it. Someone makes their apology and then the camera swoops around them in careful circles, eventually backing off into the distance while they kiss on a bridge or a snowy sidewalk.

The next words were not so picturesque, "So, where's the other twenty percent of your liver?"

"It's a long story," Katie said, it was true. How could she catch Taylor up on all of the year they'd missed when she wasn't even sure that they were okay? She missed the plane, Taylor mentioned not one word of forgiveness towards her.

"Do you want come in and tell me it over breakfast? I just woke up," Taylor offered. Katie nodded, then remembering the two people standing outside the curved fence waiting for an answer.

"I just have to get my Dad set up with Frank, hold on," Katie replied, she turned to go down the driveway just as the sprinklers turned off. For a moment she wondered if they were motion activated, Taylor would later promise they came on for about three minutes every morning at eight.

Frank was her doorman, security man, whatever the day led to. Sometimes he was her driver if she didn't have much notice, but he was someone she paid to sit in the lobby of her building during the day and make sure no one who didn't belong in the building made their way up to her floor. Someone else was there at night and during his days off. He was overly kind, even going out of his way to make sure Katie ate after Theo died. She was sure that if she called Frank and told him her Dad was coming, James would be taken care of. The other residents loved him dearly, he passed out mints to them on a regular basis.

"I'm gonna be here a while, I'll find a ride back. Dad, I texted you my address. Park right outside the door, there's valet. Tell him you're my Dad and then go inside, I'm going to call Frank and tell him you're on the way. He'll let you into my place, make yourself comfy. There's no food but Frank has menus, you can order whatever and just—" she paused and dug into her bag in the backseat, pulling out her wallet, "Charge it to this card."

"You're going back to your apartment?" Audrey asked hesitantly, "Katie, I killed all of your plants."

"Dude," Katie groaned, "You had one job! Even the cacti?"

"Especially the cacti..." her best friend sighed, and Katie covered her face with her hands, "It's not my fault you abandoned your rare and hard to care for plants for a year."

"I gave you detailed instructions," Katie was about to go on when she recalled the matter at hand, letting it go, barely, "Thank you for watching my place for me, Audrey."

"Anytime, love ya!" Audrey would have hugged Katie but she was still sopping wet from the sprinklers and that was not something she was interested in joining in on, "Text me the details!"

"I don't know if there will be any," the blonde woman hummed softly, anxiously. When both cars pulled away, Katie had her wallet, phone and keys in hand. She walked back up the driveway, Taylor's door was closed but the singer had stopped and sat on the porch.

"Do you need to shower? The sprinklers are fucking cold," Taylor offered, Katie was so glad she did.

"Is that okay? We just drove straight from Nashville, me and Dad. I probably smell like a truck stop bathroom," she explained, asking even though Taylor had literally just offered it.
