[Mastermind by Taylor Swift]
There was so much champagne going around the room that they probably could have filled a good sized pool with it. People in black suits carried the flutes on trays, dispensing them to table after table very elegantly as Katie and Taylor walked around talking to their guests.
It was their wedding day and they wanted to thank everyone who had come personally. The ceremony had been beautiful, not too big or gauche. They had meticulously gone over every single detail, down to the fabric of the linen napkins at each place setting.
Their hands were intertwined as they floated gracefully around the room, beaming with smiles as Katie pulled all of her friends and family into hugs on her half of the reception venue. Once she was done, she would put her hand back around Taylor's and gush something about her bride.
They'd done it. They'd finally gotten married. Only took them a decade and a half.
The plan hadn't originally been to have a wedding in the winter but Taylor had a massive tour in the horizon and there wasn't a good time for a summer wedding. February wasn't overly cold in Los Angeles anyways, and thankfully the sun still came in the windows until sundown and the music only got louder after that.
"I want to go do a speech," Taylor said into Katherine's ear as they watched Patrick and Kara take their kids onto the dance floor. The twins laughed as they were outrageously wiggled by their parents while Ethan crawled across the ground like an army man.
"Did you write a speech?" Kate asked her wife softly as she sipped her champagne. She was still not over the fact that her mother had finally flown to Los Angeles after all those years. It took a wedding for it to finally happen.
Margaret and James were doing well. They had just sold their home and bought a condominium. They figured with both kids about to be married, having one spare room for the grandkids to sleepover would be plenty.
As for Andrea and Scott, they never strayed far from their children. More often than not, Andrea could be found in Taylor's Beverly Hills home since Taylor had moved in with Katie on the beach. It was nice to be close, to only be a drive away instead of a flight.
"No, no speech," Taylor had a hard enough time with vows, "I just know what I want to say."
"Uh-huh..." Katie turned her head suspiciously. She had an inkling that she knew what Taylor was going to say, "Alright, go for it. Nothing embarrassing please."
"Don't you trust me?!" Taylor cracked a smile and began to pull Kate towards the stage where the band was playing. She gestured to them for the microphone and then climbed up the steps in her dress as it was passed over, keeping Kate as close as possible.
She cleared her throat and waited as eyes turned towards them. People left the dance floor in the middle of the room and returned to their tables that surrounded it. She smiled at Kate and said, "First of all, I would love to thank everyone here again. You have no idea how much it means to us that you were here to help us celebrate our wedding day, especially those of you that travelled to be here."
There was a direct mention to the table of assorted friends that had come from far and wide, known from Taylor's many parties over the years or Katie's acting adventures. The (barely) older woman waited for the clapping to die down before she continued on.
"If you'll bear with me, I'd like to tell a very quick story of how Kate and I came to be, because I know there's not a single person in this room who is tired of this story."
"Boo!" Kara, Patrick, Audrey, Joel and Austin all seemed to share the same idea. They gave thumbs down from their tables as guests laughed.
"Once upon a time the stars aligned, and we ended up in the same place at the same time. The day I met Kate, she needed lunch money. We were under the bleachers, some people, I won't name names, were watching the football team practice. Abby, Kara, don't blush so hard, I didn't tell them it was you!" She laughed, "Okay— sorry, I'm a little drunk. Just a bit."
