It seemed to you that every time there was a party, something bad always happened. Ironic really, seeing as party's were supposed to be fun.
When you were 16, you invited your crush from school over to the party. Clint would have never allowed it if he knew your friends intentions, they wanted to hook the two of you up, but all you wanted was to spend time with him.
All your friends had dates and you waited and waited alone until finally he showed up at the door. With his date on his arm. Sweet 16 turned salty.
Back to context, you wanted to plan a Christmas party for the team and had even invited Clints family to come around.
After the Hunter incident, you thought it would be best to cancel it since you weren't exactly on great terms with everyone and Clint had gone to home for Christmas. You were really looking forward to Secret Santa aswell.
Bruce was back and was trying to catch up on everything he missed. Whereas Thor, who had equally been missing for the part, didn't pay attention to any of the details as he was too busy looking for where he had last left mjölnir.
You didn't feel the same holiday spirit you usually did, where you'd decorate the tower and have party games planned out. So you sat in your room half feeling depressed, but half wanting to do something with your life, so you started playing piano.
Last year, you had a phase with pianos after non-stop playing the keyboard, so on your birthday Tony bought you a piano which you were so grateful for but didn't know how to show it. It had been in the corner of your room for so long, almost like an ornament so you decide to play it again.
You spent the entire day playing different songs, some Christmas but most were about heartbreak, you must have played 'Better Man' about 50 times, in memory of Hunter, because Natasha came upstairs and asked when you were coming down.
"I don't feel like it today Nat, I'll see if I can come for dinner though"
"Don’t be stupid, there's something important I want you to see, c'mon"
She grabs your hand and drags you to the lounge where you're almost blinded by the light show ahead of you. The entire room had been decorated in lights and ornaments. The tree was pretty small but you could tell it was all a last minute pull-off. Sitting around were the team and Clints kids.
Although most looked down, they wanted to cheer you up, so put on a front; even Steve and Tony put down their grudges just to celebrate the holiday, but still were wary of how they spoke, making sure not to come off as too giddy as they were still affected by what happened at the Stark Party.
You played with your niece and nephews for a bit and gave them their presents.
"Right it's time for Secret Santa"
"We're still doing that?"
"Yeah I mean we all bought something didn't we?" Nat replies
All of you take your seats and Bucky goes first.
He gives Clint a shaving kit and a new bow.
Clint got Nat. He seemed happy that he got his best friend and gave her some strange looking object
"It's from Budapest" he says and instantaneously they both burst out laughing and everyone watches awkwardly, wanting to get in on their inside joke.
"Well I got Hunter and he's not here so who's next" she says.
"Thor" Tony nominates
"Yes?"
"Go on it's your turn to give your gift"
"What gift?"
"The gift for the Secret Santa, oh my God. Who did you even get?"
"I don't have anyone, though if you mean which paper I got, it read 'Steve Rogers'"
"It's fine you don't need to give me anything"
"No no captain, hold on. Wait for me here I won't be long"
You watch from the window as your Asgardian friend runs out on the street and ascends to the skies. About 10 awkward minutes later he returns.
"Here"
"What is it?" Steve takes the second strange object in his hands.
"It's a gjørklop" Thor smiles, pleased with himself, "they're very valuable in Asgard"
"What does it do?" He says fidgeting about with the thin block, peering into the random holes in it.
"Well it wouldn't be a suprise if I told you"
After a moment of confusion and silence, Steve gets up and hands you a small ribboned box. It was a Harry Winston pendent, embroidered with small jewels and diamonds with your initials on the front. At the back had the Avengers 'A' over a small engraved message that read:
Whenever you're lost,
Whenever you're scared
Remember your family,
And we'll be there.
Whatever they say,
Whoever you trust
Remember Avenger,
You're one of us.-S.R.
Water begins to well up in your eyes as you read it out loud and Steve offers to put it on you. Everyone complimented it saying it suited you well. And you thanked Steve for his gift that you didn't plan on taking off any time soon.
It was your turn and you felt a bit embarrassed that you had been think of yourself when you bought your gifts for Tony, but you gave it anyway. He chuckled to himself at the sight of the vinyl saying 'he's not suprised' and when he saw the locket he grew a smile that could light up the room.
"Thanks Y/N, I really appreciate it"
Lastly, it was Tony's turn and he had gotten Thor.
He gave him a box, opened it to see a Rolex watch and everyone's eyes widened, apart from Thors.
"What is it?"
