7- The Ex

Around a week later, your in the gym back at at the tower. You finished your training lessons with Steve and are walking back to the living room talking to Natasha.

"So he's broke it off with Pepper and hasn't uttered a word? Wow they were practically inseparable despite always being apart, I wonder what happened"

"Yeah me too, but its strange Tony never mentioned anything when usually when he has a disagreement with Pepper he lets the whole tower know about it and make us talk to her"

"What if she cheated on him?"

"Pepper? Nah, she's not the type. Tony maybe but I doubt he'd ever do that to her"

"You should ask him" she suggests

"Why me? Can't you do it and won't it be abit invasive?"

"Yeah but I'm not talking to him after he won the bet when he recorded Steve to have a conversation with that goat, that he persuaded him he programmed to have conversations. I cant believe that dork fell for it" you both laugh then you hear Steve at a distance laughing twice as loud from the door way so get check whats going on.

You walk and hear your teammates greet someone very cheerfully, you get to the hallway and stop in your tracks.

There he was, tall, dark and beautiful. You get flashbacks to a time you would sing to him Style, especially the 🎶you've got that long hair, slicked back, white t-shirt. And I've got that good girl faith and a tight little skirt🎶
Sometimes when you'd threaten to cut his hair as a joke, even tho you knew you couldn't he'd still get protective which you found cute

He sees you standing at the top of the stairs and lightly smiles and you return it. You don't hate him, but you don't have that same excitement and love that you used to have before the split. You knew it was too hard to be together and it wasn't just because of the whole him being the Winter Soldier, but you had both realised you were better off as friends.

"Hey Y/N, take Bucky to the living quarters whilst we take his bags" your older brother called for you

Silently, he follows you to the room and sits himself on the sofa careful not to do anything rash.

"So, how are you?" You ask attempting to converse

"I'm good, how are you, how's things been going since I left?"

"I'm okay, couple missions on and off as usual. You didnt miss much but Bruce left because one of his family members had passed"

It was this moment the two of you realised Nat was in the room too as she began shuffling in her seat making the situation uncomfortable but it wasnt her fault.

"Oh im sorry to hear that, have you heard from him?" He turns to Nat

"Uh yeh he text yesterday saying he was okay but they needed him there for a while. No big deal we still have one of the famous science bros left, even if he is the irritating one" the three of you chuckle

Its the middle of the night but you're Y/N and that means sleep isn't in you dictionary. You go down for a glass of juice and notice someone had already beat you to it.

"Hey, what're you doing up?"

"Y/N I just wanted to apologise for everything that happened between us, look if your still hurt and don't want to talk to me thats fine I understand. I just want you to know I always looked back on what I did and regretted it so much, not only because you were so good to me but cause I always pushed you aside and didn't want to be distracted by something I could have actually have had. Ever since I came out of HYDRA the only good thing I had from my past was Steve and God knows I tried to kill him. I didnt want anything happening to you because I transformed back into Winter Soldier, there's always that risk I was unwilling to take so I distanced myself from you and that was wrong amd selfish of me, and im so sorry"

"I just wanted orange juice." You smirk
"Look I know you meant well and you weren't selfish by trying to protect me. We never really rode on a smooth path anyway, everything was so rocky for us" you walk toward him " its not your fault, and we agreed to let it go remember, we're still friends okay and I wont let anything get in the way of that"

"Even if it's Steve?"

You look at him in confusion

"I mean he told me about how yous have gotten really close and just warning you back off, he was my friend first" he giggled and you joined him, bringing back your midnight memories from this kitchen sneaking to hide the cookies before Clint ate them all in the morning.
