You walk down the hallway on the top floor, still no message from Steve or Rhodey.
You enter Tony's room, it was the biggest of them all with the best view. You always tried to convinced him to let you have his seeing as he lived pretty much with Pepper and when he was here he'd spend most his nights down in the lab sofa, or worse, awake all night. Despite, your attempts, he never gave in. He probably did it to annoy you seeing as that was his hobby as much as it was yours his. He even once offered it to Bucky when he complained about the lighting in his, which ticked you off.
You open the door slowly and it creeks,
"Stark?" You couldn't see him, the lights were off. You walked in further, you hadn't talked to him since this morning so you still had to hold up your ego. "It's almost midnight, they don't want you to miss the countdown so..." your voice trails off as you glance at different corners of the room.
The smashed glass and fallen furniture from the night before was all still there. You catch your eyes on a broken picture frame. Two broken frames, they were connected like a book. On one side there was a photo of him and Pepper, smiling so wide, it wasn't a suprise seeing as no one made him happier than her, it was cute.
On the other side you make out the figures of the team. You knew this picture, because you took it and ran back into the frame which is why your hair was a little out of place. Here again everyone seemed so happy, it was after you had defeated Ultron and your nephew Nate was born so you all went to visit.
You look around, not being able to find the light switch, the only source of light was coming from his mini stain glass window which shot through its midnight light streaks into a maroon filter.
You hear a small grunting sound coming from the bathroom, you jump but prepare to defend yourself from any possible intruder.
It was now you began to hear the countdown coming from downstairs. A perfect opportunity to pounce.
You break down the door but there was nothing.
Through the darkness, you manage to make out a figure, but as you come closer you see it lying on the floor. You see him lying on the floor.
"S-Stark?" You whisper nervously. You reach down to hold him but your hands and clothes become smothered in some sort of stain.
Instantly you search for the light, turning it on you scream.
You looked around in your blood soaked gown only to see him lying on the floor with the same maroon blood covering his torso as it was choked out of him.
"No- no no no no no no" you panic and tears build up faster than time. Shaking, you feel for him. For any sign of life. For any sign of Tony.
"Stark, get up now. This isn't funny, Stark I need you to stay with me okay." You cry "Tony, please"
He had locked himself in the bathroom, lying on the floor when you broke through. You hold him and you feel his heartbeat
"Can you hear me" you scream "Please don't leave me" you say in muffles, tears gushing down as rivers would dwell into oceans of emotions and grief.
"Y/N?" You hear Steve enter the room
"10, 9, 8, 7"
"Where are you- Oh my God!"
"6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1"
"Tony!"
"HAPPY NEW YEARS!"
The fireworks begin their rounds. The world celebrates, while the three of you are struggling for life."Hey, hey Tony, it's me Steve. We got you okay, we got you- Y/N have you checked his-" he realises your state and decides to check Tony's pulse himself.
Feeling around he gasps in relief, "Thank God, he's still alive. We need to get him to the hospital now!"
You're still standing dumbstruck, after Steve came in all you could do was stare in horror.
Bruce came hurtling into the bathroom after overhearing the panic-striken Steve from the hallway. Pushing aside Steve to check for any bodily declines.
Steve noticed your shortness of breath and grabbed you, holding your head in his chest he squeezed you tight and planted kisses on your head,
"It's gonna be alright, Y/N, it's all gonna be over soon. Okay don't worry sweetheart I promise I won't let anything happen to him. It'll all be fine okay" he says in his mellowing voice through his own cries and gasps for breath, as if trying to convince himself at the same time.
"He did this to himself, God, Tony why did you- when did-" Bruce bursts out, unable to finish his sentence through his own suffering.
Steve phones for an ambulance and returns to holding you, but you push him back this time.
"It's all my fault, I did this. I killed him"
"He's still alive Y/N-"
"But I drove him to do it, I'm the reason he tried taking his own life, I-" you stutter drastically.
Steve this time breaks through your resistance and embraces you again, and this time you give in, allowing yourself to break down in his arms.
The team one by one follow up on Bruce, flooding their way in along with their tears and cries.
You watch terrified as Bucky and Steve carry him out to his bed, with the assistance of Clint who spoke no words but you can read his emotions from his eyes.
Each and everyone there are waiting for the ambulance to come with no patience at all. Some standing by Tony, others pacing around the room. But there was one thing for certain on everyone's minds, it was that they had pushed him to do it. Everyone took blame, but as much as this, they knew you took it the hardest.
He was still breathing and you thanked God for that, but he had drank excessive amounts of the drug poison that his insides were failing on him. If they fail on him they'll fail on you and everyone else in the world who ever looked up to the great Iron Man, or Tony Stark.
If anything happens to him you will never forgive yourself.
