Nineteen

Lottie was packing to get ready to fly out to Spain to meet Lando, he was flying straight from Miami and they were going to have a small break before the race kicked off. They couldn't wait to see each other and spend time together. Zac was happy to let Lando have the time as long as Jon was close by and Lando had promised to use the Simulator at Carlos' place, something Carlos agreed to.
Lottie was packing her skincare, when she felt a sharp pain in her side. She grabbed her side and winced in pain. She stood up letting out deep breaths, wondering if her mad last minute packing had given her a stitch. Lottie had been experiencing a dull ache in her back the last few days but assumed that due to the stress of the photoshoot and lack of water that it was from that. She carried on packing not thinking anything of it, but the pain was still there. She was focused on getting packed and heading to the airport. She thought the lack of sleep, food and high stress from the last week was just catching up but once she got on the beach she would be fine.
Lottie heads back in to the bedroom after packing toiletries and heads to the bed to place the bag in the suitcase when the pain gets worse, it knocks Lottie off her feet and she falls to the floor. Her skin becomes clammy, her skin heating up, the pain getting worse. She reaches for her phone and dials Jess, who was now back at home.
"Jess" Lottie whispers.
"Hey, What's up"
"Jess, something's not right...Ahh" Lottie screams out in pain.
"Lottie, Lottie, what's going on?"
"I'm at home, I've got a pain. Can you com...ahh" Lottie grabs her side as the pain gets worse.
"I'm on my way" The call ends.
Lottie attempts to stand up from the floor, as she stands tall her head whooshes, lights flash in her eyes and then it goes dark.

Jess walks in to the house, out of breath after speeding to Lottie's house.
"Lottie, Lottie, where are you?" She runs upstairs and bounces through the bedroom door. She looks to see Lottie passed out on the floor, blood dripping down her face and on to the grey carpet. "Shit Lottie" She rushes to Lottie's side to check on her. "Shit, Shit, Shit" She reaches for her phone and dials 999. Within 10 minutes an ambulance arrive and start treatment on Lottie. Jess looks on in horror, realising Lando has no idea. She calls him, whilst the ambulance deal with Lottie.
"Lando, its Jess, something has happened...it's Lottie"
"What's wrong?" Lando responds in a panic.
"She rang me saying she was in pain and when I got here she was passed out with blood on her head"
"What the fuck? Where is she now?"
"The ambulance are here, they are about to take her to hospital"
"Right I've just got in Spain, I'm getting the next flight. Text me which hospital" He doesn't give chance for Jess to respond before ending the call and springing in to action. He had to be there, he had no idea what was going on but he couldn't lose Lottie. He rings his mum, to tell her so she could head to the hospital too as he wasn't going to get there for another 3 hours. His mum didn't hesitate and was practically out of the door heading for the hospital.

When the ambulance arrived at the hospital, Lottie was whisked off and Jess was told to wait. Time went by and Jess had no new updates. Within 3 hours Cisca arrived, greeting Jess asking for any updates which Jess didn't have. Another hour passed and Lando came running in to the hospital.
"Where is she?" He shouts at his mum and Jess.
"We're still waiting on an update." Jess says sitting down in the chair.
"I'll go ask" Lando heads to the reception desk. "Hi, my girlfriend Lottie..Charlotte Clark was brought in a few hours ago. I wanted to know if there was any updates" He looks to the middle aged receptionist, who begins to type on the computer.
"All I can see was she was taking in to surgery. That's all I have right now"
"Thanks"
Lando heads back to Cisca and Jess. "Apparently she's in surgery. What the hell has happened?" He places his head in his hands, trying his best to hold back his tears. 10 minutes later a doctor enters the waiting room.
"Charlotte Clark's family?" He looks on at the busy waiting room. Lando, Jess and Cisca all jump up.
"Over here" Lando heads to the doctor.
"If you would like to come with me this way" He heads the trio in to a private room and closes the door. Lando's chest starts to feel heavy, he worries the worst and that he is going to lose Lottie. Their life together had only just begun.
"What's happened Dr?" Lando looks at him, looking for answers.
"Hi I'm Dr Fletcher and you are?" He looks at the worried faces of the trio.
"I'm Lando, Lottie's boyfriend. This is my mum Cisca and Lottie's best friend Jess" He points to the women.
"Nice to meet you" He shakes their hand " Charlotte is ok. Her appendix had ruptured and we had to carry out surgery to take out the ruptured appendix. When she passed out she also banged her head so she's had two stitches to sort that out too. Did she mention about been in pain at all the last few days?" He looks at them all. They look between each other.
"No she didn't mention it, why?" Lando responds still visibly concerned.
"She would of been experiencing discomfort for the passed few days before the rupture, she is lucky as it could of been much more severe. We also noticed as we were carrying out the surgery, erm" the doctor pauses and Lando wishes nothing more for the Dr to hurry and finish what he has to say. "Lottie also suffered an Ectopic pregnancy, we had to remove the right tube due to the complications she were facing."
"What..what does that mean?" Lando stutters unsure what the Dr is telling him. He feels Cisca placing her hand on his shoulder.
"Unfortunately it wasn't a viable pregnancy. We had to remove the right tube which means Lottie might struggle with fertility and future pregnancies but our specialist will speak to Lottie once she comes around"
"Can we go see her?" Jess responds.
"I will get a nurse to come get you shortly, they are just placing Lottie in a room"
"Thank you for everything Dr" Lando shakes the Dr's hand.
"You're welcome" The Dr leaves the trio in the room.
"Lando I'm so sorry" His mum hugs him.
"I didn't even know she was pregnant, I mean it wasn't planned. I - I erm I"
"It's ok. These things can happen"
"She's stubborn I'll give her that" Jess jokes. "She was in pain whilst doing the shoot but she was too stubborn to have said anything. She can be an idiot sometimes"
They are interrupted by a friendly nurse who escorts them to Lottie's room. They walk through the door, Lottie turns to them with a weak smile on her face.
"You scared the shit out of me" Lando says rushing to her side and placing a gentle kiss on her lips. Lottie is laid in bed, with a breathing tube up her nostrils, hooked up on to a drip and monitors. She looked pale and weak, Lando wanted to be mad at her for not telling him she had been in pain but for now he just needed to check she was ok.
"You scared us Lottie" Cisca smiles as she walks in to the room coming to the opposite side of the bed.
"Don't ever do that to me again, you bitch" Jess comes and sits at the side of Lando.
"I'm sorry guys. I just thought with how stressful the last few days were and not having much time to have some water that it was that" Lottie says looking at the worried faces of the trio.
"You need to take it easy for a little bit now honey, get your strength back" Cisca smiles at her holding her hand.
"I'm going to tell Zac that I can't race. I'm sure he will understand" Lando says going to grab his phone.
"No you can't" Lottie goes to sit up but winces in pain at her sudden movement.
"Yes I am" Lando jumps up in reaction.
"Cisca, Jess, Could you give me and Lando a minute please?" Lottie says looking at them both. They take the hint and leave the room closing the door. Lottie turns her attention to Lando, who is holding her hand, rubbing his thumb on the back of her hand.
"You really scared me babe, when Jess rang. All I could think about was getting back to you."
"I'm sorry Lando. I didn't know. I had no symptoms. I was just as shocked as you" Lottie looks at Lando, her eyes glazed over. When the doctor had told her about the ectopic pregnancy, her heart sank a little. The thought of having a family with Lando was glorious, they just weren't ready for that yet. They'd not even had that conversation about kids and marriage but if she was to fall accidently pregnant, then she would of been fine with that. Now the likelihood of that happening easy next time were slim.
"I know. I was shocked too. How are you feeling?"
"I'm sore. I feel really light but I think the drugs might have something to do with that" They both let out a little chuckle. "But I'm ok, honestly I am, that's why you should go race"
"I can't leave you like this"
"I won't be alone. I'm sure Jess or your mum can stay with me until I recover. I'll be in here for a few days and then I just need to go home and let my stitches settle. Honestly Lando, I really want you to race, please for me" She looks at him serious but with big eyes.
Lando sits for a while thinking before he responds. "I'll go race on two conditions, one, my mum or Jess stay with you and two, you message me if you feel unwell, have any little pains or anything like that. I know you Lottie and I know you like to think you can be strong and keep things from me, but that's not how this relationship is going to work, you need to be honest with me, whether you are ill or not. Understand?" Lando's tone is serious, the most serious Lottie had ever seen him. She knew she had hurt him by not telling him about her feeling unwell but she didn't want to bother him with a slight pain or a headache.
"I promise I will tell you everything from now on."
They talked for a little before Lottie fell asleep and Lando stepped out to speak to Cisca and Jess.
"How is she feeling?" Jess looks at Lando, slowly closing the door and heading to them.
"She's ok in herself, the painkillers might be something to do with that. She's told me I have to go race" Lando rubs his chin with his hand, still unsure whether he should leave or not.
"I'll stay with her, make sure she's looked after" Cisca smiles and places a hand on Lando. She could sense how uneasy he would be about leaving Lottie so by having her, he should seek some comfort in that.
"Thanks mum. I'd really appreciate that"
