Chapter Six
Cody’s POV-
I walked into her apartment for the second time today. I laid her down on the couch. On the way back, she finally closed her eyes and dosed off.
The first thing I did was go out to my SUV and get a change of clothes. I then locked it and went back inside. Working in a gym had it’s advantages. I always had miscellaneous clothing in my car.
Once back inside, I saw that Claire was still on the couch. She hadn’t moved an inch. The only indication that she was alive was the steady up and down motion from her chest, signaling she was breathing. I shivered with fear. I don’t know what I would have done if she had gone through with her plans.
I went in her room and changed quickly into a pair of sweats and a t-shirt. I walked back in the living room and sat down, staring at Claire’s small, fragile body. I had to get her out of those clothes and into something more comfortable, I decided.
So I walked back into her room and scanned over it. I went through several drawers, smirking when I came across her undergarment drawer. But after searching most of the drawers, I found a pair sweatpants that would work. I walked back to where she laid and leaned her up then slid a pillow under her, making her sit in the upright position. I slid her long sleeve shirt off and threw it to the side. She was wearing a tank-top under it. I have to admit that I was slightly disappointed. But oh well.
I grimaced when my eyes spotted the cut marks on her wrists. They looked fresh too. I would take care of those in a minute. I unbuttoned her jeans and slid them down her legs. I don’t know how girls put up with skinny jeans. It took me five minutes just to get them off. I grinned at her almost-unclothed lower half. But now wasn’t the time for that. I gently slid the sweatpants up her legs and over her impressive backside. I had to keep the sinful thoughts out of my head.
Now to take care of those cuts. I was going to need her conscious for this. So, I sat beside her on the couch and nudged her gently. “Claire.” I said, louder than I probably should have. She bolted up, looking around the room. Her small frame was trembling uncontrollably.
I put my hands on her small shoulders. “Shhhhh, you’re okay.”
She still looked panicked.
“Claire, look at me.” I said.
She did as I asked. Her expression alone made my heart shatter into a million pieces. It looked sad and worn. Right now, she wasn’t a girl, but the shell of a girl. All of that sadness was evident in her emerald green eyes.
“We need to run some water over those cuts.” I said.
She nodded.
I picked her up and carried her into the kitchen, setting her on the counter next to the sink. She still had that vacant look in her eyes.
I took her small hands in my large ones. They were still ice cold.
I turned the water faucet on and waited until the water had reach a good temperature. Then I placed her wrists under the cold water. She winced from the shock of the chill and the pain of the cuts on her wrists. I wouldn’t let her pull her arms back.
After running some colder water on the cuts, they still looked terrible. At least, twenty cuts littered each arm. They would take a while to heal completely, just like the person they were attached to.
“Claire, please talk to me. Say one thing to me so that I know you’re still sane. You can cuss me out if you want, just say something.” I said.
After a few minutes of silence, she did the unpredictable. She wrapped her arms around my neck and her legs around my waist, and then pulled me to her. I hugged her back, wrapping my arms around her tiny waist, amazed at the size they were. I felt tears drop onto my shoulder. Her shaky, warm breath made goose bumps on my neck as she leaned in closer to my ear and whispered “Thank you”.
