Chapter Eleven

Cody’s POV-

I had left Claire in a state of confusion after telling her to be ready around five so that we could go on our official second date. Hopefully this one would go better than last time.

After leaving her house, I went to the gym and met with a man that had obviously not worked out in 20 years. Some of the people that walk into this gym really make me wonder. But nevertheless, I wanted to help him. He was a nice man and acted as if he were eager to get back in shape.

As I was walking out of the gym and to my car, I was greeted by a not-so-welcome visitor. Kayla walked in with a very tight, very low tank top on with shorts that showed half of her butt off, even though it was freezing outside. Slut. As soon as she saw me, she pulled her tank top down a little lower, as if it weren’t low enough already, and pranced over to the counter. I wanted nothing to do with this poor excuse for a girl. I had keep from gagging when she leaned over the counter to show her already semi-exposed upper-half. “Hi, Cody! I totally didn’t expect to see you here!” She said in an innocent tone. If you’re going to lie, at least make it sound convincing.

“Uh, hi.” I said. I didn’t want to make her go off any more on Claire, so I kept my cool.

“Well, I was wondering if maybe you wanna go get drinks tonight after we’re both done here. Sorry it’s so last minute, but you know how it goes.” She smiled.

“Yeah, um, actually I already have plans.” I told her in my best uninterested tone.

She frowned, but refused to give up. “Well, maybe tomorrow?” She plastered her fake smile back on.

“Uh, Kayla. I’m gonna be honest here for a second. I’m not interested in you. At all. Please get that through the layers of hairspray and dead brain cells of yours. Besides, there’s someone else.” The last sentence tumbled out of my mouth until I could stop it. But as soon as I did, I regretted it.

Her face turned red from anger in an instant. I could tell that this was a mistake.

“Well, who is it?” She asked.

“I don’t think you have a right to answer that question Kayla. Why would I tell you? So that you can go and make them feel like a piece of shit just like you did to Claire?” I really needed to work on controlling what came out of my mouth. I wasn’t ashamed of my feelings for Claire, I just didn’t want Kayla to make her go all suicidal again.

Kayla’s face lifted into a vindictive smirk. She was just so gross. “Oh, so you and Claire are a thing?”

I wasn’t holding back at this point. “Yes, she is. I would really appreciate it if you wouldn’t talk to her…ever again.”

“I always did wonder why you always liked her. I mean she isn’t talented…or pretty. And me…well, I’m just perfection, or at least close to it.” She smiled.

“Actually, Kayla, you are the biggest bitch on this planet. The only thing that you’re talented at is plastering make up on your face and pulling your shirt down to where it doesn’t even serve a legitimate purpose anymore. Claire is way prettier and more talented than you are. So please, go and try to seduce some other guy because I’m not interested…not now and not ever.” I said to her. I might just regret this later, but it needed to be said.

This finally fazed her, at least for a second. Then she bounced back. “You just wait, Cody. One day, she’s gonna leave you for some other guy after you loved her unconditionally. Then you’re gonna wish that you hadn’t helped her in the first place. She said as she walked through the doors to the main floor of the gym.

I didn’t believe that one bit. Even if she did move on one day, I would let her. As long as she’s happy, so am I.

Speaking of Claire, I only had an hour to go before I got to see her again.
