Chapter Fourteen

Claire’s POV-

“Well I don’t have to because we’re here.” He said, flashing me that cheeky grin he that makes my heart skip a beat.

There were lights a block down from where we parked. I could hear faint music coming from those lights.

Cody helped me out of the car then grabbed me hand. It’s almost as it were second nature to him at this point. But I wasn’t complaining. I felt safe with him.

“Cody, where are we?” I asked. I wasn’t good around large amounts of people. A large group of people were evidently going to be part of this second half of the date. I’ve never felt safe in crowds of people in a small area of space. That’s one of the reasons I moved out of New York City in the first place.

“We are on the other side of town. My friend’s band is hosting a concert in the park and I wanted to bring you. They’re all dying to meet you.” He said, smiling triumphantly.

I didn’t like the idea of this. I wasn’t exactly comfortable being around people, much less males. Cody was an exception. The only exception. “I don’t like the sound of this. I’m not comfortable around big groups of people. Honestly, I’m not comfortable around people at all.” I said.

His faced drooped a bit. But then it lit back up. He must have realized that his smile melts my heart, because there he goes grinning again. “Just trust me, princess. I promise we don’t even have to stay long. I just want you to meet my friends.” At this point, we had stopped walking towards the crowd and he was hugging me. My heart was still beating a little fast from him calling me ‘princess’.

I sighed. “I guess. But can you just introduce me to your friends and then we go?” I talked into his shoulder.

I could tell he was smiling as he spoke. “I promise. Plus, I think you might like their music.” He squeezed me one last time, then we resumed walking hand-in-hand.

As we got closer to the concert, I could hear the music. Cody was right, I did like it. He looked at me, trying to read my features for any reaction. I smiled at him. He returned the smile.

I could also see many, many people. Some were dancing on the makeshift dance-floor that was surrounded by those cool lamp-thingies that are usually a variety of colors. They were giving off just the right amount of light to give the atmosphere a laid-back and more personal effect. Other people were sitting at tables that sat around the dance-floor, while others were standing and making conversation with each other. It wasn’t that bad.  I was still a little nervous, and my anxiety was rapidly growing. Cody must have sensed it, because he put his arm around my waist as we wove our way through the dancing crowd and over to the side of the stage. I could hear the song coming to a close. Then the singer of the group spoke. “Alright guys! We’re gonna take five! Don’t you leave that dance-floor!” The crowd cheered as the band ran off the stage and made their way over to us. I inched my way behind Cody to where I was peeking around him. He chuckled.
