Chapter Thirty One

Claire’s POV-

I woke up to high sunlight hitting my eyes. It hurt. Everything seemed to hurt my head. I tried to remember what had happened the day before. The painful memories came back in an instant. Searing pain in my wrists and my head reminded me of what my poor excuse of a Father had done to me. The things he told me and said about me echoed throughout my head. Tears started to fall down my face.

A familiarly large hand wiped one of them away, making my heart instantly skip a beat. I looked into Cody’s bright blue eyes. Concern and what seemed to be anger swirled in his eyes; more concern than anything else. I stared back into them, not wanting to break the silence first.

“Morning.” He said in a sleepy tone of voice. It was seriously the hottest thing I’d ever heard. It instantly made me smile a little, causing him to wear that cheeky little grin that he wore so well. “How do you feel?” He asked, furrowing his eyebrows.

“Like crap.” I said, realizing that my head was throbbing and my wirsts burned from the aftermath of rope burn.

He frowned. “You need to go to the hospital.”

I shook my head quickly. I had always hated hospitals. They made me feel unsafe and weird. I was always afraid that they would use the wrong drug and kill me. “It’s probably just a concussion. They can’t do much for that at a hospital. I can just take it easy and heal myself. Besides, it’s not like I have to work this week, anyway.”

He wrapped his arm around the small of my waist, gently pulling me on top of him. I rested my head on his chest, listening to the steady beat of his heart. My head rose and fell with his breathing torso. “I know you don’t like hospitals, but you will feel better in the end. I don’t want to be the reason that you have a permanent brain injury someday.” He joked.

I giggled. “Fine. I’ll go.” I said quietly, looking at Cody. He smiled, so did I.

Had someone other than him asked me to go to the hospital, I wouldn’t have gone. But he wouldn’t leave me alone, and I would be okay in the end.

                “Hey Claire.” Cody said smiling.

                “Yes Cody?” I replied.

“Babe, in order for me to get up, you have to get off of me first.” He joked.

“That’s the point. I don’t want you to get up.” I replied jokingly.

He chuckled, and then lightly slid me off of him and got up. I watched him walk into the bathroom and brush his teeth. Then he walked over and picked me up bridal style, setting me lightly on the floor. I instantly got dizzy. He steadied me then walked me to the bathroom so that I, too, could brush my teeth. I smiled in appreciation.

After that, I pulled on a pair of jeans and one of Cody’s hoodies. While I was brushing through my hair, a question instantly popped into my mind. Hey Cody. How did I get out of my other clothes? Plus, I’m almost positive that I had blood all over me from yesterday.”

He looked at me and blushed. I hadn’t seen him blush very much, but I loved it when he did. “I um…kinda sorta gave you a bath last night.” He said sheepishly.
