Chapter Three

Cody’s POV-

I stared at the clock for what seemed like forever. Each minute ticking by slower than the last. I couldn’t wait to see Claire. It was true, I was hopelessly sappy because of a girl that I hardly knew. But I didn’t care. She was just so beautiful and caring.

Finally, the clock hit five o clock and I only had two hours to go before I got to see Claire. All I had to do was go home, get a shower, then I was off to see her.

Claire’s POV-

This date might just be the death of me.

After Cody left and Kayla virtually tossed my only chance of being happy out the window, Sam and I locked up the shop. I walked along the sidewalk in the brisk  Autumn breeze.  Cody was right, because of my being hopelessly short and small, the wind almost had me airborne. After I got home, I took a shower then laid down and tried to go to sleep.

Laying there in my bed, today’s events replayed over and over in my head. From Cody’s asking me out to Kayla telling me not to go with him. I decided to go with him. Honestly, I wasn’t going to hurt anything. My life was already in ruins, what was one forbidden date gonna do to it?

The next morning, I went by the CD shop to pick up my paycheck. It didn’t make me a multi-billionaire, but working full time at the shop paid the bills with a little to spare. Plus the fact that my uncle that I haven’t seen in forever owns the apartment complex I live in. I get the family discount; or in other words, I live there for free. I loved my uncle, but I never saw him because he lived in New York. I guess when you think about it, a small town in Illinois was a pretty big trip to take from the Big Apple. But he said that as long as I ‘behave’ (because I’m SUCH a terrible person) I could stay for free.

After going by the shop I walked to my favorite clothing store that was conveniently just down the street. Its location, atmosphere, and style made out t be absolute favorite store around. I went there so often that all of the employees knew me by my first name and they greeted me like they would an old friend. I knew most of the employees by their names too.

I walked in the store, breathing in deeply to get a whiff of the sweet smelling perfume they sold exclusively. The girl at the counter, Sasha, greeted me “Hey, Claire! How are you today?” She smiled.

“I’m pretty good. Just came by to check for anything new? Have you seen anything that I would be interested in?” I smiled then laughed lightly. Sasha was probably my favorite out of al of them there. I considered her a friend.

“Actually, I have seen something that looks like something you would buy.” She smiled then motioned for me to follow her.

We walked to the front of the store where they put all of the new merchandise. She held up a top that just absolutely screamed my name. It was a sweater that was a little more on the tight side, meant to show just enough of my curves off to compliment my figure.  It was white and looked like it had been knitted in the store. Sasha smiled, knowing that she had done well, as usual. “You like?” She smiled.

                “That’s a complete understatement. I love it!” I smiled.

“Well go and try it on! She said, as she grabbed a black pair of skinny jeans. “Wear these with it.” She said as she tossed them to me.

I went to the fitting rooms and tried everything on. For once, it actually look okay. I walked out and up to the register.

“Again, you have outdone yourself on picking out an outfit.” I said to Sasha as she rang up my items.

“Of course!” She winked as she put the clothing in a bag.

I paid, thanked her, and then began my short walk back to my residence.

                *****

After taking a quick shower, putting on a minimal amount of foundation on my face and some mascara on, then drying my hair, I looked decent.

Before I walked back to meet Cody, I examined myself one last time in my full-body mirror. My hair, which was the perfect amount of wavy, fell down just below my shoulder blades. The top I had bought hugged my curves just right and the skinny jeans gave my legs a longer appearance, which was welcomed because of my height, or lack thereof. I put on a black pair of vans and grabbed my jacket, then headed out to meet Cody.
