Chapter Twenty Seven
Claire’s POV-
Darkness. Darkness is all that I saw when I woke up. I tried to get up, which was a big mistake. I felt dizzy; the room was spinning around me. After a few minutes, I tried to rise again, a little slower this time. After gaining what little sight I did have, I took in my surroundings. There wasn’t much to take in. It was a room with a bed and a dresser. There was a full-length mirror in the corner of the room. A generic off-white color covered the walls, making me feel like I was in a hospital. The lighting in the room wasn’t very good, telling me that it wasn’t, in fact, a hospital.
I subconsciously grabbed the necklace that Cody gave me. The little silver arrow gave me a weird sense of comfort when nothing else did. I hadn’t taken it off since he gave it to me. Maybe that’s a freaky thing to do, but at this point it was irrelevant.
There were no windows in the room, which freaked me out. I never liked small spaces, especially when there wasn’t a way to look out. This room was the equivalent to my bathroom at home. It was a huge bathroom, but not big enough for a bed, dresser, and mirror. I took deep breaths to prevent myself from having a panic attack from the enclosed space.
Just as I was getting my wits about me, someone opened the door. I quickly shoved the necklace in my shirt. I would freak if someone took it from me. It was a male. He looked to be in his early forties, enough to be my Father. I took a second look; It was my Father.
Cody’s POV-
Kayla was gonna pay. She was gonna pay and then she was gonna tell me where my girlfriend was.
Because we saw each other a couple of years ago, I knew where she lived. She and her family were probably eating dinner right about now.
As I drove down the road, memories of Claire flashed through my mind; the way she blushed at my slightest compliment, that night after I saved her, our first real kiss. Those emerald eyes were all I could see as I pulled into the driveway of Kayla’s house.
There were a lot of cars in front of her oversized house. This was perfect. I was going to expose her vindictiveness in front of her whole family.
It was still raining when I ran up under her porch. I knocked on the front door rapidly, making sure they heard me from their dining room. I heard footsteps grow closer and then the door opened. It was Kayla’s Mother.
I always did like Tanya, and she didn’t mind me hanging around all the time. At some points during Kayla and I’s relationship, I felt closer to Tanya than I did her daughter.
“Cody?” She looked pleasantly surprised. “What are you doing out in the rain?”
“Hello, Mrs. Young. I need to speak to Kayla.” I said hurriedly, looking past her into their huge house.
I saw an apprehensive look flash across her face. “Please, Mrs. Young, this is urgent.”
I didn’t give her time to reply. I rushed past her and walked in large strides through their house and into the dining room. I could hear her footsteps behind me. I entered the dining room, where Kayla, her two sisters, and her Father were sitting and enjoying their meal.
“Cody?” Kayla tried to sound innocent, but she knew why I was here. “What are you doing here?”
“You know damn well what I’m doing here.” I couldn’t control myself. Rage pulsed through my body, causing me to talk a little louder than was necessary.
