I wiped the blood from my mouth with the taste of iron disgusting me.
"Fighting with Straw Hat isn't very like you, Law," Vergo growls. Law stays silent beside me.
"Being a traitor isn't very Marine of you, Vergo," I spit with a frown. The ex-marine glares at me through his dark shades.
"Who are you?" He questions with a scoff. "Some groupie that is only along for the ride?"
"Fight me and find out."
"Cocky." Vergo tenses and I see his arms covered in Armament Haki immediately. "I hate cocky." I grunt at how fast the man moves. He landed a blow against my chest, sending me backward into the metal railing. I gasp for air at the impact, Law immediately trying to set up a room to stop Vergo from advancing. Vergo was quicker, though, squeezing Law's heart in the clear cube it rested in.
"Law!" I shout, crawling to get up. "Are you alright?"
"Worry about yourself, Girl." I whip my head to Vergo at the comment.
"Your ass is screwed," I laugh. "You think I'm cocky, but it takes a lot of success to make someone so full of themselves. You should know." Venom was laced in my words.
"Shut it!" Another fist comes down, but I keep my stance in front of Law. Smoker seemed to be taking a lot longer to get here than I remember. I tremble when another blow lands on my cheek, making me stumble but not fall. One last hit sends me to the floor in front of Law.
"Kaneko-"
"Just shut up and make a room, dammit!" I state angrily when I hit the ground. He nods, doing as told. Once again, Vergo squeezes his heart, holding the organ in front of himself. I take that advantage to kick upwards, knocking his fingers off of the cube and the heart goes flying into the air. I scramble up, kicking off Law's back as he crouched forward to leap into the air and grab it.
"Brat!" Vergo grabs my ankle, pulling me down with the heart in my hands. He stomps over to me, reaching down for it, but a trail of smoke suddenly fills the view, taking the heart from me and clouding it from Vergo.
"Looks like I made it just in time," Smoker claims as the smoke settles and Law is rightfully grasping his heart.
"Yeah," I breathe out. "A little too close to call there." My snarky comment was cut short when I yell out and I feel a foot stomp down on my spine, crushing it underneath it painfully. I yelped, unable to move my legs from the crushing pressure on my back.
"Kaneko!" Smoker yells out. I could feel tears prickling my eyes in the corners, my vision blurring, and my pulse in my ears. The pressure on my spine was released when Law placed his heart back into his chest. I knew he defeated Vergo already, but I couldn't move my legs.
"Can you stand?" Smoker questions as he comes to my side. I shake my head with a whimper.
"I can't move my legs."
"Shit," He groans. "He may have damaged your nerves and paralyzed you." His arm slips under mine before he hoists me up to be dragged alongside him. I mentally panicked at the idea of losing my legs. Could I really never walk again?
"We need to get the cart. Kaneko can ride in it." I nod numbly at Law's suggestion. Smoker helps me into the cart before going to the front to tug the heavy metal forward on the track. As soon as I was alone, my thoughts of panic poured in. Would I be a deadweight to the crew if I was paralyzed? Would they leave me somewhere? Would Luffy still wanna be with me? My breathing picked up and I could no longer control my heart rate. Hands suddenly encased me and I gasped at the feeling.
"It's just me, Kaneko-Ya." I stared at Law through a tear-filled vision. I saw a blue tint around us and I immediately knew he had us in a room. "I'm gonna check your spine. Smoker and I promised Straw Hat you'd be safe with us, so a paralyzed girlfriend isn't gonna cut it." I nodded with a shaking breath.
