My breathing was ragged as I stood with shaking limbs in front of a broken mirror in Kuri. How was this possible? My hands went to my stomach, gliding over the slightly protruding skin. Law said I was a month pregnant. I turn to my side and view the profile of my stomach. It was lined over my hips with a rounded bottom that shaped a ball over the front of my stomach and up to my chest.
I'm only a month pregnant.
How do I look three months ahead of that?
My stomach was normal earlier with Law and his assessment. I trust him fully in his knowledge so I knew it wasn't false or incorrect. This had to be wrong. I had to be seeing things. A flash of light bounced from the mirror as the tattered door slid open.
"May, we're gonna head-" Nami stopped and stared at me for a long moment before coming in and closing the door behind her. "M-May..."
"Okay, so I'm not going crazy," I quickly spoke. "You see it, too?"
"What happened? You were gone for five minutes! How did you grow a couple of months' time?"
"I don't know and will start freaking out soon!" I can feel my heart rate speeding up and pounding in my throat as if I just ran a marathon. She places her hands on my stomach gently, regaining my attention.
"Freaking out won't help you or the baby," She points out. "Let's get Chopper to do an exam since Law is gone." I nod in agreement before she rushes to the door and beckons Chopper over. The reindeer appeared in seconds, but he was just as shocked as both Nami and me.
"May!" He exclaims. "What happened?"
"I was hoping you could tell me!" I whined with a shaking breath. "I don't know what's going on."
"Okay, stay calm. We can figure this out." He hums in thought until Nami snaps her fingers.
"You mentioned a long time ago that you were from another word before you were called the Sight, right?" I nod. "What if your body is... different? Perhaps you grow a fetus at three times the speed?" I could see where her suggestion was headed.
"My old life had normal pregnancies and births or cesareans," I reassure her. "I don't think that's a part of it." Her words did strike me with another possibility, however. "Being a Sight, though, might have something to do with it..." I grabbed Chopper's doctor bag and rummaged to find my snail with Shanks. Thankfully, even with Wano and its border guards, I was able to reach him in two rings.
"Maylene?" He asks immediately. "To what do I owe the honor?"
"Hey, Shanks, I have a question that I'm hoping you can answer." He hums in acknowledgment. "How was my mother during her pregnancies with my brother and me?"
"Uh... Normal, I guess?" He answers with uncertainty. "Actually, wait- Your brother was a normal pregnancy. I remember your mother having you in what felt like the blink of an eye."
"Me?" I swallowed thickly. "Are you certain it was that quick?"
"I'm positive," He replies. "You were here within a week. I remember that your mother talked about Oceania a lot during that time." It was starting to make sense. However, in a week? I can't have this baby in a week!
"So she had me at a very unnatural rate, right?"
"Yep. Told me she was pregnant one day over snail. I turned around to head to her and meet you, but I was eight months late because she called to tell me you were already born." He paused while I stood there in shock. "Why do you ask?"
"Uh, um... Well-"
"You're not!" You could hear something fall and a groaning Shanks before he returned to a closer position to his snail. "Maylene, are you pregnant?" I sighed heavily and looked at my slightly overgrown belly.
