Everything about Dressrosa was a miracle when it came to the past. Luffy becoming Bounce-Man was something I was living to see in person, which was more than enough to make me happy.
"He's doing great, huh?" Robin asks beside me. I nod with a small smile.
"He truly is amazing." Her eyes soften when she looks at me.
"You've grown up, May." I furrow my brow. "I mean mentally. You used to want to be on the battlefield to help Luffy every chance you got. Now you're stepping back to trust in him."
"Is that a bad thing?"
"No," She replies quickly. "It just means that you're more in love now than you ever have been. You trust him to the extent that you didn't before. I'm proud of you." I felt my cheeks tint in embarrassment at the small compliment.
"Thank you." My eyes go back to Luffy and I can see him wearing down on Doflamingo rapidly. Law was in his hands when he leaped from the building and I quickly placed my hands on the grass. I took in a deep breath and pushed water up from the grass as Umi had shown me a while ago to help heal my wound enough. The liquid pooled under the area Law was being tossed to with Robin's hands catching him in the air. She lowered him gently into it as if it was a water bed before letting go entirely. I let the water flow back into the ground and rehydrate the grass and flowers surrounding us.
"Take care of Law for a moment, Robin," I command. "I'm going to go on ahead and get ready for Luffy in the Town Square." She nods and I rush off to the area I knew was going to become a battlefield for Luffy and Doffy.
"May?" I stop when I hear Usopp calling out from the Old King's Plateau. "What's happening?"
"Clear out the plateau!" I shout. "It's going to become dangerous!" He nods and looks back to the others before disappearing from the edge. When I finally make it to the town center there were already multiple people watching the fight.
"She's a Straw Hat!" Someone quickly shouts. The crowd comes closer, hounding me with questions I didn't quite know the answers to. I finally cleared my throat and held my sword up in the air.
"Everyone," I yell out, "clear the area immediately! The battle will end up here soon!" The crowd was still for a moment and I knew it was a waste of time just to stand there baffled. "Move it!" They all seemed to snap from the trance and ran off from the area in a slight panic. I turn to look over my shoulder at the two that were fighting and see them closing in on the area. One thing I didn't expect was to see Doflamingo's sights deadset on me. I gasped and held up my sword just in time when four sharp strings flung in my direction.
"Ah, it's the traitor," He says when he lands in front of me with Luffy shortly trailing in to follow.
"Leave her out of this, Mingo!" Luffy argues with his now deeper voice. I watched in admiration as he bounced around with the sound of what reminded me of gongs echoing from the haki he used.
"Oh?" He asks with a smirk. "And why should I do that?" I grunt and swing my sword in his direction once more. His strings came up, but when in contact with the blade, they broke immediately. He huffed in annoyance at his strings being broken and groaned. His attention turned to Luffy shortly after when he could sense the charge he was making at his back.
"Get going, Maylene!" Luffy demands. I won't hesitate again, this time taking off towards the townspeople that were fleeing.
"May!" I stop when I hear a familiar voice.
"Sabo!" I call out. "We need to get everyone away from here as quickly as possible!" He nods once and rushes after everyone with me, pulling the stragglers with him. I knew Luffy was going to need support soon, but with the way things were going, I couldn't do anything else right now. I ducked behind a building when Sabo disappeared with the others to catch my breath.
