Needless to say that Doflamingo was pissed when I disappeared with Luffy. As soon as he had sent out his goons after us, I knew it was coming for the time he attempted to kill me. For now, though, I was focused on getting Luffy and Law up to the flower field with the help of Bartolomeo making stairs with his barriers. I had made it up before Luffy and Kyros, so I could try and stop Rebecca from becoming harmed a bit earlier. I knew that it was a risk, but I also knew that I would be okay in the end, after all, I always am.
That was what I thought.
Until I felt my own sword stab through my back to exit my front.
"Maylene!" Rebecca calls out. I was keeping up a good fight against Diamante until that moment. His sword was evenly matched with my own skills thanks to the two years I spent fighting with the Red-Haired Pirates. However, in the end, it wasn't enough.
"You let your guard down, Kaneko," Diamante claims with a low laugh from behind me. "You even dropped your sword. How pitiful." I only let go of the sword to attack better because I knew it was nearly impossible for anyone other than myself to wield it.
"How..." I mutter before blood spurts from my mouth. My knees fall to the ground right before my hands follow. My vision was blurred, but I could clearly see the tip of my sword sticking out from my torso, dripping my red blood onto the grass.
"That sword was a bit difficult to hold, I'll admit," Diamante mentions. "Thanks to my devil fruit ability, though, I was able to wrap my cape around it and stab you with ease." Of course. I didn't think about the possibility he would figure out a way to avoid my sword's reaction.
"Maylene, what should I do?" Rebecca yells in panic, running to me and trying hard o comfort my pain. I couldn't hear much more than her voice over my heartbeat now. If the sword is removed, I'll bleed out. I needed Law to help me. He was the only one who could remove the sword without it killing me.
"Run," I whimper. "Go." Rebecca lets out a deep breath, debating whether or not to follow my advice. Law wasn't going to come any time soon and I was going to bleed out on this grassy field. The only way to help now was to send Rebecca running earlier than she was supposed to. My body slumped sideways as I became unable to keep myself up. Diamante steps over me with a deep chuckle to chase after Rebecca.
"I'll kill you as I did your mother!" My eyes shut after the rotten man speaks, trying to focus on my breathing. If I held out a little longer then Law will be able to help me. I just needed to survive long enough.
"May!" The bellowing voice of Luffy broke through the loud heartbeat and breathing I was hearing. My eyes opened woozily, my sights falling lazily on the man.
"Lu..." My voice trails off and I can see his eyes turn deadly.
"Rebecca!" He calls. "The key!" My eyelids grow heavier, and my torso and hips are now soaked in my blood. My breathing has become short and heavy pants while trying to stay lucid enough to watch for Law. I couldn't fight it any longer, though, as my head hit the grass heavily.
Please.
I don't want to die like this. I want to travel to get the One Piece with Luffy. I want to see the beautiful land of Wano. I want to fight beside the future King of the Pirates. My throat was tightening and tears were rolling down my cheeks to land on the flowing grass. I could feel a hand on my arm and slowly fought to open my eyes. Law was pressing on my arm, obviously trying to keep me conscious.
"Room." His voice echoed and I could see the usual blue tint that followed the command. I felt myself loosen the tense muscles around my wound before the sword was gone from my body. Law hissed as he threw the sword down, the hilt burning his hand slightly.
