Missy watches her father talk to her crush as she watches them from the top of the stairs. She wasn't that far, so she heard most of the conversation, and she had never been so embarrassed in her fifteen years of living.

She did not just watch her father hand her crush a pack of cigarettes and a box of condoms and told him to leave right after. Missy just wanted to curl up and die. She couldn't believe he did that.

Watching her crush's expression turn from calm to horrified really made her want to cry. Jefferson, her father, waved her crush away and made his way up the stairs, passing by Missy. She groans out of embarrassment and stomps inside, slamming the front door shut.

"Why did you do that! You should've just hit us both with a truck! I would've preferred that!" She was angry and her tone with him only made Jefferson ignore his daughter. "Dad!"

"I hear ya now, you don't have to go on with that yellin'." He sits down and turns on the box television and sighs before picking up his whiskey flask. "I was his age, I knew what he wanted and I told him to take the cigarettes and condoms and never come near you again. I told him to find some other girl."

Missy couldn't believe what she was hearing! Her crush may tell the entire freshman class what her dad did, people might make fun of her. All these negative thoughts ran laps in her head, making her glare at her father with so much anger.

"I'm going to Mama Retta's! Ugh!"

Missy made her way out of the front door and stomp her way next door. She never wanted to get away from her father so badly before. Some people would even say they were two peas in a pod when she was little, but she's not little anymore. She was growing up, and she was going to lose interest in training to protect herself, shooting guns, and all the other things he's been teaching her. She wanted to feel normal for once, and her father ruined that chance for her.

"Mama!"

"Chile if you don't stop that yellin' in my house..."

Missy closed the door, and she could feel her tears streaming down her face. She ran up to Loretta and hugged her tightly. Just the comfort of Mama Retta's arms made her feel calmer but she couldn't stop weeping. It was nice to have a woman around that understood her.

"You two have been fighting all week now, what's happenin' ova there?" Missy sighs and wipes her face before sitting down on the couch.

"I'm growing up and he doesn't understand that!"

The sound of Loretta's laughing caused Missy to peek up at her. She didn't think she would be laughing at her, she honestly thought she would be agreeing with her. However, seeing her smile and laugh really made Missy happy, but she didn't think that now was the time to laugh.
