Missy had just slowly crept out of her room, after a long day out with her father doing more little self-defense exercises. She didn't bother closing her door at the time, since she didn't want to interrupt whatever conversation her mama and father was talking about. She always used to dislike when they leave her out of conversations, especially when the topic is about her.

"I wish I knew more about her biological parents." She heard Jeff say to Loretta in the kitchen while she secretly stood out of sight listening in on them just outside the threshold.

"How can her parents leave her on my doorstep like that?" The man complains, making her sigh under her breath quietly. They were talking about her. Of course they were.

Missy leaned against the wall beside the threshold to the kitchen, and listens carefully about what the two had to say about her situation. The same situation her father told her about before when she was younger.

"She didn't look no more than five months old. The only thing they left is that damn locket on her neck. It took me a long time to legally adopt her Retta... I love my little girl to death, but I wish I could at least help her find them."

"How do you know that's what she wants? Why don't you sit down with her, and let her decide?"

Missy never really thought about her parents, since her old man told her about them, or rather or not she had family out there in the world. All she cared about was Jefferson and Loretta, they took care of her despite their age. In her eyes, they are her parents, so why did Jefferson want to find her biological parents so bad? It made her assume the worst.

"There's just no trace of them. Even if I sat her down to chat about this, it wouldn't matter if I don't have a lead on who they are, or better, where they are." He said, causing Missy's chest to ache, as if her heart had been ripped out of her chest. Did her father not want her around anymore? Was he sick of her?

"Jeff..." Loretta's tone seemed concerned. "What did you do?"

"I paid someone to help me out, and I paid a lot of money for it too." he confessed, earning a gasp from Loretta. "Damn leeches..." the man adds, before the sound of a bottle or can being slammed on the wooden table could be heard.

Missy held on to the locket that was around her neck, nibbling at her lip listening to their conversation. She didn't know why it was so important for her to know her biological parents. Was it because she's getting older?

"You paid a bunch of thugs to help you!" Loretta scolded the old man. "Are you serious Jeff!"

"Quiet now! I don't want you to wake her up!" He whispers. "They aren't thugs. They're trained professionals."
