chapter thirty-seven
▂
The night fell silent.
It's like Missy was having Deja Vu, seeing both Martin and Xavier bodies lie lifeless on the stone-hard ground. Viola still had the gun in her hand. Her index finger never left the trigger as she presses it over and over again, despite nothing coming out of it. Her brown eyes with a hint of green were bloodshot, and Missy could still hear her crying still. Although her sobs were quiet, she could feel from where she was sitting how disoriented and distraught she felt at the moment.
"Ti odio...ti odio," Viola repeated over and over again, "Took everything from me!"
Missy knew they had no more bullets, especially after all of that fighting. Missy knew her gun was out, since Viola used all of the bullets on the man's lifeless body. The area surrounding them was silent. If Missy dropped a pin, she's sure they would hear it. However, it wasn't completely silent, the only sound that could be heard was the clicking sounds of the trigger being pulled repeatedly.
"Viola..." The scratchy tone passed her lips causing her to cough, trying to clear up her voice, but it did nothing but make it worse. Missy rubs her neck and sighs softly. This was a lot worse than sure expected it to be.
Missy scoots away from Martin's body and stares at the trembling woman. "Viola!"
Viola stops pulling the trigger, dropping the gun as she falls on her knees. Her shaken hands covers her mouth for a few seconds before she covers her entire face.
"He'll forgive me, right?" Viola utters stiffly, still visibly shaking from this traumatic event. "Xavier won't hate me right?"
"I don't...know." Missy answers truthfully, it was her business that Viola cheated, and she hardly knew Xavier to know if he'd forgive her for something like that.
"He killed him...". Missy watches Viola's red tear-covered face twist up in the vastly painful utterance as if her entire world has been ravaged. "He killed him before he could forgive me."
"I know Viola, but we can't stay here." Missy tries to get her to understand but the woman shakes her head and crawls to Xavier's lifeless body, cradling his head, hugging it to her chest.
Seeing her like this made Missy wonder if this how she was when Jefferson died. She was aware that she changed when Jeff was killed, but she never really knew how she behaved. Yeah, she slept around, killed a lot of people, and still tried to be normal. Was that normal?
"What are we going to do, Xavier?" Missy heard Viola say to the lifeless body. "Our baby didn't get to meet you...You can't leave me like this!"
"Viola, I'm serious. All the shooting and screaming could've been heard. We need to get out of here." Missy tries to convince her, wincing as the shot to her shoulder starts to throb.
