The lit wax candle faintly shimmered on the table. Aaron sat on the mat he called a bed; Tundra standing opposite of him. They put their brains together in hopes of developing a plan. Their target was a foreign prince, so there was no room to talk of "taking him out" not that that would be his first line of action though. They encountered a troublesome opponent.
"I really can't think of anything. Could we feign ignorance?" Aaron threw his head back running his fingers through his hair.
"No, he definitely noticed me; I have a suspicion he targeted that knight of yours to get you close..." Tundra laid her head onto her paws, whining and lowering her ears. "I noticed something at that time as well. I don't know whether or not I should bring it up..."
"In what regard?" Aaron asked in case that it might lead to a possible solution to their problem. He might end up blackmailing a prince which in hindsight was better than murder. She was quiet for a bit.
"When they arrived I felt a spark... in your heart. Do you perhaps have feelings for the princess?" Tundra boldly assumed and Aaron was unable to speak. He didn't see that coming.
"Yes..." He shamefully admitted to it. It was only natural to envy those of the higher status, to yearn for that kind of position. Princess Genevieve was certainly a beauty, one that would attract admiration from many so it was not strange for a boy like Aaron to take fancy of her.
"Makes sense; she is quite beautiful. I'm sure if the circumstances were different she would choose you." Tundra replied; her tone felt sad and frank and it made Aaron think what she actually meant by it. He rubbed her head in concern.
"It's good that she will marry another. It gives me a chance to move on and put these forbidden feeling behind." He replied as he laid down on his mat ready to go sleep.
"Are you really okay with just letting go like that?"She asked somewhat surprised by his answer; he smiled and giggled.
"These feelings bared no fruit to begin with, as if she could ever look my way. Besides, being royalty carries its own responsibility and expectations; one's I could certainly never fulfil. If I'm lucky I'll find me a girl I could call 'wife' and 'love'. Until then I'll just have to make do with what I've got."
"Hm; I wish you luck in finding what you seek." She added; Aaron was already comfortably lying down with his eyes closed and a smile on his face. He fell asleep instantly. She lifted her head, summoned a chain and swiped past the burning candle putting out the small flame. "Good night, warrior."
With the sun barely peeking from behind Mt. Orion, Aaron stood on his feet wide awake, fixing up his attire. He had a big day ahead of him and he had to find ways to wiggle his way out of the jaws of a royal.
Tundra was still asleep; he planned on bringing her along but she looked so peaceful that it would be a shame to wake her up; he'd be biting himself all day for it. Therefore he quietly snuck out and went on with his business. It occurred to him he didn't arrange a proper time and place where they should meet.
At first he assumed he would drag his feet around while waiting for the prince to show himself. To his surprise he didn't wait all that long more over he was the one to come late; the prince was already up and waiting for him. It was strange to see a member of the royal family wake up this early. Was it a time difference?
"There you are squire!" he greeted him enthusiastically which was an immediate red flag for Aaron. "I must admit I have forgotten your name."
"It's Aaron, your highness."He bowed; despite Aaron's will to keep his distance the prince was persistent in closing the gap. Aaron luckily saw through him beforehand and offered to set off.
