Lost at sea

Chapter 6

"Wait that isn't fair". I follow him as he walks around the deck. "It is quite fair Lena. We will take care of him if that's what you want but we are dropping him off in Os Alta the moment we get there". I stop in my tracks "Wait, we're going to Os Alta?" He turns around to look at me. "Of course we are. Alina and I have some pressing matters to talk to the king about". I rub the back of my neck. Although I hadn't been gone long, Ive desperately missed my friends.

Nikolai starts walking away. "Wait can I go see Adrik". His face stared straight avoiding my gaze "I'm not stopping you". I run up to him and hug him from behind "Oh! Thank you!" I quickly let go to run of to Adrik.

As I make my wait to the cell I see Tolya tending to his wounds. "Hey". He looked sore but he wore a cute smile on his face. I sit beside them. Once Tolya finishes he stands up, bows, and leaves. I lean my head on Adriks shoulder. "I'm so sorry". I've been dying to say those words after practically abandoning him on that ship. "Lena darling, don't say that. You did your best". He kisses me on the top of my head. I felt his lips brush my hair. Saints I could just lie there with him for ages.

I feel him rest his head on top of mine. We fall asleep on each other like that. It felt reassuring and comforting but I also was filled with guilt and I didn't know why.

"Saints are you really that stupid Lena". I look around for the voice. "Hello? Who's there?" It was pitch black. I walk around and it felt like I was walking in a puddle. My feet were bare and cold at the touch of the water. I look down at the water and see my reflection. My body was covered in bruises and scars whilst my face was left untouched. My wrists had scars that looked like chains were eating away at my skin.

"Lena why'd you do that. You abandoned us". Another voice. It sounded different than the first. A young girl.

One of the voices step out from the dark abyss. Adrik. "Hi..." my voice quivered. He looked neat and perfect. His former injuries were gone as if they were never there. His hand reaches out to my face. I lean into his palm. My face was wet with tears and I didn't know why. "You don't love me". I laugh. "Oh please that's not even funny". His face stayed firm. "You love him". Saints this was getting irritating. He steps back into a spotlight. "Adrik what are you doing?" His face started changing. It was covered in scars and black blood. His eyes went dark and his clothes became wet. "Wake up Lena".

"Saints she sleeps like a fucking rock". Mal was shaking me non stop. "I don't think that's the correct phrase". Adrik spoke kindly unlike my brother. "Stop bickering and just wake her up". Nikolai says. "What do you think I'm trying to do". Nikolai rolls his eyes. "Oh shut up".

I wake up to his voice. I reach out to grab his arm. I was panting hard and my clothes were damp from cold sweats. My eyes were bloodshot and I couldn't see straight. "Saints are you okay". Nikolai leans his face by mine to make sure I was alright. "I'm fine, what happened?" Adrik looks between Nikolai and I as I let go of his arm. "It happened again. The cold sweat, nightmare, same thing as last week." Mal gives me a concerned look "again? This has been happening for a while?". I shake my head "no just while we've been on this trip".

Lately I've been having nightmares. Vivid ones. They would start off alright and normal, but they would always take place in a dark black abyss with the floor covered in water. Lately the dreams have been worsening. Normally that would be all that I would remember, just the setting and how bad the dream was, but everything after that I would forget. Except for this time.

I look up at Adrik. I remember what he looked like and it scared me. I felt like crying from stress. "Did you remember anything this time?" I look at him and softly smile "no". I deliberately lied. Why did I do that. I look at Nikolai. "I'm sorry for worrying you guys". Mal sighs "You should be" He teases. I shove him causing him to fall over. "Asshole". He mocks me.

"Well you should get cleaned up, we're landing soon". Nikolai gets up to leave. "I'm glad you're okay Lena". He smiles at me and turns to leave. I smile back and it felt like my heart skipped a beat.

Mal leaves right after, leaving Adrik and I alone again. "Hey you don't like that Nikolai guy do you?" I laugh. "Where'd that come from darling?". He shrugs. "Never mind. I'll see you once you're done getting ready". He gets up to leave and he looked all sad. I speak up so he can hear me as he walks off "Baby I love you". He turns and smiles at me. "I know. I love you too". As he leaves my heart clenched in my chest. Guilt, again. And I still didn't know why that was.
