I hear someone yell as a volcra swoops down to attack them. "Alina for saints sake get some light in here!" I yell obliviously into the dark. We weren't going to be able to do anything in the darkness of the void. I look around to see her struggling to bring some light out.

Eventually a bright flash goes off. On the floor of the ship was a few dead bodies with Volcra carrying them away and picking at their flesh. I look to the side of me to see Nikolai and I see Adrik on the top of the boat blasting Volcra away. Mal was near Alina shooting them. Although it took awhile Alina's light was able to veer off some Volcra. Everyone was doing their best to help fight off the monsters- including the crew.

I had mindlessly left my water flask back at camp and I had to do something to help before I got killed. I use my powers to pull out some water from the dead bodies to attack the monsters. I cut through the air slicing a few Volcra wings and limbs off. They fall onto our ship with a heavy thud. I see a Volcra closing in on the young girl. Oh dear god. I attempted to find some source of water within the Volcra. After all they are living creatures but using my powers on them took some work.

I finally find its "water source" as I pull the water through the volcra's body tearing it to shreds. "Are you okay!" I run to the girl covered in Volcra blood. She nods frantically. "Good, stay by me!" I run over to Mal, the girl staying close by. "Mal I need you to watch her!" He nods. I turn to help but I stagger once I step forward. "Ugh my head" I mutter. My eyes blurred out and I felt lightheaded.

Controlling the Volcra drained all of my energy and hurt my body horribly. This has never happened before with any other creature and I had no idea why it was happening now. Hopefully it was just because I was sick.

"Lena look out!" I could hear the faint voice of Nikolai and his footsteps as he ran towards me. My eyes focused and before I could do anything I'm taken by a Volcra, it's claws digging deep into my arm. I yell out in pain as my own blood trickled down my arm. I use my free hand to control the Volcra's body. Drop me. It does as I think and I hit the wooden planks of the boat.

The monster floats still in the air as I see it trying to fight back. I use it to attack some of the other monsters taking down a lot more then I expected. Fuck this hurts. The strain this had on my body was wearing me out and putting to my pressure on myself. I try to keep hold of it as the blood from my wounds seep even more. I let go of the monster. The pain was to sore to bear.

My body collapsed on the flood, struggling to get back up. I wanted to scream from my pain. Everything felt like it was burning and dying. I hear Nikolai's distorted voice yelling at Alina and another squaller to get us out of here. I see Mal hovering over me "Tamar, help us out." I feel her slow my heart rate. It eased my anxiety and pain a little.

"Lena are you okay" I hear the sooth of Nikolai's accent as he kneels beside me. I uneasily shake my head no. Mal tries holding me up resting my head on his chest. I look around for Adrik. He was one of the few squallers that was still alive so he needed to keep the wind going to get us out faster.

My wound from the Volcra stung. I needed to clean it and close it up. I muster up some strength to pull out some water out of a nearby body and wash out my wound. If I had enough energy I would scream but I was to exhausted. I pull out one of my daggers from my leg sheath. "Fire" I mutter. Nikolai looked at me confused but calls over one of his inferni. I hold out my dagger. The inferni heats it up until I pull it away. I take a deep -painful- breath. I rest the knife on the cut, melting the flesh together. I grit my teeth and cry a little. I drop the knife to the ground.

Doing that added a lot onto my pain but I needed to get it done, I was bleeding out way to much. I felt like passing out. I start seeing the faint light of the sky. Finally. Once at least half of the boat gets out I hear the hurried footsteps of Adrik. "Lena!" He sits next to me and holds me close. I wanted to smile and hold him but I felt tired. "Hold on let me just close my eyes real quick." My eyelids grow heavy. "No no no. Lens just stay with us for a little, please".

A/N: very dramatic chapter. I literally side eyed myself a bit. Trust tho, it helps add to the drama and plot. 🤭
