Lena's POV:
Today was the day of the ball and I was in a rush to get ready. I had accidentally spent to long outside with Adrik. "Fuck!" As I run into my room I trip over a box in the doorway. I furrow my brow as I pick up the box and examine it. It was a sheer white box with a twine tie around it. I open the box and set aside the cover and twine.

Inside was a dress and a note. I put the box with the dress inside on my bed as I grab the note.

Hi lovely,
Thought this would suit you, just like how everything else does. I'll be waiting for you by the entrance of the great hall.
Yours truly,
Nikolai.

I smile as I read the note. He's such a flirt. I put the note in one of the drawers of my bedside table as I grab the dress. I hold it up to my window. The dress was an ombré blue and white with intricate golden details all over the bodice. (Picture of dress in the heading, at the beginning of the chapter). Wow. It was stunning. I set the dress down on my bed. I needed to get cleaned and ready for the ball before I could change.

I bathed and got clean before I did anything else. I sat at a vanity mirror as I did my makeup and my hair. I wasn't a huge fan of makeup but for events like this it was the proper thing to do. I didn't do much though. I just put on some mascara and lipstick, I felt I looked fine with just that. Plus I wasn't ever very good at makeup, so I didn't really want to try.

I tie my hair back in a half up half down hair-do. And I make a braid and outline the tie with it. Along with that I clip in a few old babies breath flowers from my old vase and put it in my hair. That ought to do it.

I grab my dress and slip it on. It enhanced the look of my body and the colors matched me very well. Or was it because I just liked the colors that I thought that. I put on a few pieces of jewelry and some silver heels and head for the door.

Nikolai's POV: (A/N: these upcoming parts are going to be switching povs a lot for the sake of it not being boring)

Where is she? I kept checking the time in hopes that she would arrive faster but it barely changed with each glance. She wasn't even late, I just wanted to see her.

"Ack! Nikolai!" Lena called out to me as she tripped over a rock on the way over. She had caught herself but she stopped to brush herself off. "Hi there lovely." I smile at her as I look at her.

She looked amazing tonight. The dress I picked really suited her but it was Lena herself who still took my breath away. "Did all this for me?" I say with a sly smile. "No, more for myself than others." She looks up at me with a wide grin. I loved how she didn't care about her effect she had on others but rather herself. "Well you look gorgeous" I say gently. She softens her smile as I take her arm to head inside.

Lena's POV:
The doors were open to a brightly lit room filled to the brim with people. Everyone was elegantly dressed as they moved around the room with grace. The grisha stood out from the crowd, whether they were on guard or just walking around. I stand on my tippy toes as I look around for Adrik but I couldn't find him yet.

I hold on tightly to Nikolai's arm as he leads me around the room. Everyone walked up to him to talk to him. He looked so comfortable and professional as he spoke to everyone. He held my hand on his arm as he spoke to a friend. I felt like melting right there. Agh the hand placement. My face felt warm as I smile and look at the ground.

Nikolai bids his friends goodbye as he looks over to me. "What's happened?" I look straight avoiding his gaze. "Oh nothing." He pulls my face to his by my chin. Oh saints. I felt like melting right into his hand. "Fallen for my charm already?" I laugh it off.

"Don't we have to greet the majesties?" I try and change the topic as I pull him over to them. "Aha don't try changing the topic" he smiles. "To bad pretty boy." I hold his hand as I lead him through the crowd. His hands felt calloused but gentle. I smile softly as he holds my hand close to his body. Lena don't do this to yourself. You're in a relationship.
