25th January

Aloïsia's POV

I turned to my side and double tapped my phone screen to check the time, 2 AM huh? Some nights I'm having trouble sleeping, not that I am an overthinker, just a thinker I'd say. I'm glad Alvin is doing alright now, I still smile when I think of what happened.

"Brötchen" he said, seriously who names a cat after a bread? I knew exactly what to call her when she sat down innocently after ruining Niko's outfit, Serene. If it wasn't for her, Alvin might've been lying there passed out for god knows how long. Niko left because she can't handle cats (Obviously) and Clay stayed a bit longer to make sure whether Alvin's fever was going down or not.

Who are these people anyway, not gonna lie, they both look somewhat attractive. Clay is probably a bit taller than Alvin. Black wavy hair, tanned skin with silver eyes. Niko is a bit shorter than me, silky black hair up to her neck, dark brown eyes. I hope nothing happens to Alvin again, I honestly don't wanna see them a second time.

Alvin went back to sleep soon after Clay left. I forgot to ask him where he found the cat but I guess that can wait. I'll go ahead and try to sleep.

Niko's POV

It's about time, I take out my pocket watch and count the seconds, awaiting the sound of my phone ringing. Fascinating how the authorities never miss a second on their scheduled calls. It's always an anonymous man asking for a detailed report on the completion of an assigned task, same routine everyday.

Ring Ring- Ring Ring-

"Code Niko, ID 3404XOE." Always need to say this before submitting any report.

During my earlier days I once asked why we don't submit written reports? Knew it was a mistake after hearing a fainted sigh from the other side of the line. Written documents can easily be manipulated, stolen, fragmented. Instead, they record these call sessions in their database with highly tight security. They use their own satellite for data transmission within the members of the association so no chance of any data breach or wire tap from third parties. Even the instructions are sent to us in our company provided phones as voice mails.

"Good evening, Niko."

Wait it's not the usual guy. It's-

"Good evening, Mavis" I reply after a short pause.

"It's not a very common thing for Alvin, you should know that the best, right?" She exclaimed, always straight to the point.

"Yes, I found it odd when I heard he's living with someone. A lone wolf like him would never do that unless there's a motive."

"Precisely, what can you tell me about that someone?"

"Inexperienced, I'd say."

"I didn't ask for your personal opinion, Niko."

"She seemed like someone who had a lot to say. She made tea as an excuse to get inside the room when we displayed clear signs that she cannot be allowed inside."

"Run a background check, give me as much information about her as you can. And I'll assume you already know to not have Clay involved."

"I'll get it done."

"Your uncle is getting discharged from rehab this month if I'm not wrong."

"I know."
