Percy POV

Everything was great. Everyone was happy. I was happy.

Then, around 8:30 pm, Annabeth pulled me aside. She directed me into a guest room. It was blank, a boring beige color, and practically empty.

"Okay. What's wrong?" She demanded.

"What? Nothing." I lied. I considered telling her for a moment.

Then, I remembered the images Tartarus had shown me of Max. Twisting and screaming. Covered in blood. Crying. Falling.

No. I'm not gonna tell her. That will not happen to anyone. Not if I have anything to do with it.

"Bullshit. Tell me." She continued.

"I'm serious. I'm fine!" No! No, I'm not fine! I'm being possessed by a freaking primordial. Help me!! "I'd tell you if something was up." No. I wouldn't!

"Percy, I don't believe you." Annabeth argued.

"I'm okay! I haven't seen you in weeks. Let's just relax. Have some fun." I squeezed her hand.

She yanked back and folded her arms. "I can't have fun unless you tell me what's wrong. Talk to me!"

"I'm not discussing this right now." I told her.

"That's fine. I'll discuss it. You listen." She said.

I turned away and opened the door. "We aren't talking about this." I walked out of the room. Annabeth storming after me.

"Why not?"

"It's not the time."

"This is the perfect time. I can't think of a better time."

"I'm not gonna disrupt the party with my stupid, meaningless problems!"

"Ha! You admit you have a problem!"

I sighed and turned to face her. We were standing in the kitchen now. I could tell people were watching but in that moment I just couldn't care. I was panicking.

What if she found out? I need to protect her. I need to pretend that nothing's bothering me. I've done it before.

"Annabeth. I. Am. Fine. Nothing's bothering me." I tried to convince her.

I like seeing you stressed out. It's funny. Your mind is all jumbled and you start thinking really fast. Tartarus muttered. I could hear his smile.

Ugh. Just shut up. I resisted the urge to roll my eyes.

"That's bullshit! Tell me what's wrong!" Annabeth yelled.

"Nothing! I'm fine!" I yelled back.

"No, you're not! I can tell! I know you, Percy. You just need to say something!" She ranted. "Are you angry? Sad? Tired? Yes, you're tired. I can tell. You need to sleep more."

"Thank you, for telling me how I feel. What else is new?" I said sarcastically. I didn't know why I was so angry. She was just worried. I shouldn't snap at her like that.

I realized that it was probably Tartarus influencing my emotions. He's been doing that a lot. It's kinda annoying.

Tartarus laughed in my brain.

Outside it starts to pour.

"Percy, just tell me!" Annabeth persisted.

I started towards my room. "No!"

"Why not?!" She yelled, right on my heels.

"Because I don't feel like it!" I grabbed a backpack and started shoving clothes in it. I grabbed my wallet and keys.
