It was Saturday noon, and the sky was slowly being enveloped by sheets of grey clouds.
"Crap... they didn't say it was gonna rain today." Ethan scowled as he put his hood up.
"Ethan!" Phelium waved from a few metres down the road.Ethan waved back.
"So, where are we off to?"
"The girls aren't here yet." Ethan said whilst scanning the streets.
"Layla!" Brooklyn's voice shouted from nearby.
Ethans eye's widened and he grabbed Phelium as they started walking.
"Crap, was that Brooklyn?"
They slowed down near a book store and pretended to observe the display. They looked round the corner, where there was a playground and a small park. Brooklyn was waving as she approached Layla.
"Where's Athena?"
"She said she's walking."
"Ah, lets wait here then." Brooklyn and Layla sat down on a bench.
"What if they see us?" Phelium hissed at Ethan.
"Don't manifest it." Ethan hissed back.
The rain started to pour and quickly grew from a drizzle to heavier drops. Ethan and Phelium jogged to take cover underneath a tree near the playground. Phelium shook off the raindrops across his jacket. Ethan did the same and noticed an engraving on the tree trunk. L + D
"It's still here..." Ethan said under his breath.
Ethan was on his way home after school during 4th grade in primary school. He was carrying an umbrella and held a spare in his left hand. He knew that Layla hadn't brought one to school. He decided to check if Layla was at the playground since the tree they always meet up at was there. As he neared the park, he spotted Layla standing by the tree. A smile spread across his face. Layla was crouching near the ground, looking for something.
"Did she lose something?" Ethan mumbled. He was about to walk up to her but another girl around Layla's age came running up to her. She handed Layla her umbrella. Layla smiled brightly at her. Ethan suddenly felt strange. He froze as he stood in the rain. He looked at the spare umbrella in his hand.
When he looked back up, Layla and the girl were scratching something on the tree trunk. After writing it, the girl took Layla's hand and they started running while sharing an umbrella. Ethan covered his head with his umbrella as they ran past him. When they were gone, Ethan approached the tree and saw the letters L and D beside each other.
"What are you guys doing?" Athena's voice snapped Ethan back from spacing out. He saw her looking at him and Phelium with a suspicious squint.
"Ah crap, be quiet!" Phelium whisper-shouted.
"What?" Athena grimaced. She looked out at Layla and Brooklyn, who were bickering while trying to pry open an umbrella. "Did you follow us here?"
"Uhm no." Phelium scoffed. Ethan sighed.
"Hey Lay-!" Athena was about to shout out to the girls but was stopped by Phelium who covered her mouth. Are you crazy? You crazy-! She violently punched Phelium's stomach, he let go immediately. She then looked at Ethan, who raised both his hands up, trying to laugh it off.
"Athena?" Layla spotted Athena and then saw the two guys. "Why..."
Brooklyn and Layla walked up to join them by the tree. Layla was laughing at them "Did you guys follow us?" Ethan tried to look away to avoid the question, while Phelium held his hand over his stomach.
