With period two coming to an end, it was break. Walking out of her class, Athena walked down the corridors dodging past people. She saw a familiar figure a bit ahead of her. He was standing by his locker, exchanging his books for the next few lessons.

Smiling, she called out his name,"Phelium!"

About to run up to him, she was stopped by another person who approached him.

He turned to look at them and engaged in a conversation.

"Who's he talking to?' She slowly began to approach them and reached out to tap his backpack. Her hands were a few inches away but she missed her grasp as he suddenly began to walk away.

"Phelium."

He didn't hear her call out his name and continued to walk, busily chatting to the person next to him. He was smiling as he talked, his gaze focused on the figure slightly shorter than him. Athena followed the direction of his eyes to find another familiar person. Her long smooth hair flowing softly behind , her smile glimmering.

"Brooklyn...?" Athena said under her breath as she watched the two walk off.

Amongst the uproar of voices in the corridors, Athena quietly followed her classmates out of the classroom. She silently watched the others; arms over shoulders, messing around. "Athena!!" She felt a nudge behind her. Turning around, a girl with her brown hair tied up, greeted her.

"Olivia..." Athena waved timidly and nervously clutched her sketchbook closer to herself. Olivia glanced at the book, "You like to draw right?" Athena nodded.

"Can I take a look?" Athena hesitated. "Aw please?" The girl grabbed her arm and took the sketchbook from her. Her fingers smoothly flipped through the pages with her eyes widening. "Woah these are so cool~!" exclaimed Olivia.

Athena laughed softly, her expression pleading to take it back. The book fell to a page with a polaroid picture. It was Phelium with a basketball in his hands , a mischievous grin across his face. Beside him was Athena wearing the same hoodie along with a silver medal draped around her neck.

Olivia's expression grew silent. Athena quickly snatched the sketchbook back and shut it.

"Ah that was from a long time ago, our families are really close and we just ended up in the same school." Explained Athena waving her hands, trying to clear any misunderstandings. There was no response from Olivia whose face suddenly darkened.

Nerves built up in Athena's knees, she knew that Olivia liked Phelium, she didn't want to lose her over a small crush. "Olivia?" said Athena softly, she worriedly looked at her. She raised her arm to comfort her but was interrupted by a boy who walked up to them.

"Hey Athena, I was looking for you." Phelium wore an annoyed look. "Let's go and have lunch." He glanced at the girl behind Athena. "Olivia?"

He met Athena's eyes. "Did something happen?"

Olivia walked past, a cold aura oozing around her. Athena stood still, her body stiffened as she watched the girl's expression transform into a grin whilst she grabbed Phelium's arm. Her throat dry it was difficult to let out her voice.

Unable to shake off the uncomfortable feeling, Phelium reluctantly began to head towards the cloisters with Olivia. Despite that, he couldn't help but look back at Athena who looked so alone.

The end of their school day was nearing, but the gut feeling inside Athena wouldn't fade away. Heavy-hearted she swung her backpack onto her shoulders and took Olivia's favourite drink out of her locker. She let out a deep breath and closed the locker door. She walked off to search for her.

Ten minutes had passed but she still couldn't find her. Losing hope, she headed for the school gates. As her footsteps echoed down the staircase, she heard a few voices below.

"What about Athena?"

Athena halted at a step, her fingers gripped around the cold metal railing.

"Her? She's nothing. I don't need her."

Athena scoffed in disbelief. Her shoes tapped down the steps sturdily, the sound echoing to the walls around them. Heads turned to her one by one.

Like a predator only one remained Athena's target. The girl with flowing brown hair.

Walking straight to the centre, the crowd retreated like a wave. Standing firm, Athena stared right into Olivia's eyes.

Gently nodding as she looked at her so called friend, Athena tossed the drink from her hand. The bottle twisted in mid-air as if time had slowed down. With a thump it landed into Olivia's arms. Her eyes taken aback, she watched Athena walk off down the steps below.

"See ya." Athena raised her right hand up and quickly flashed a grin before leaving their sight.

The huddle of students broke from their silence like a spell had been lifted. Whispers buzzed then came to a sudden halt once more.

A boy had come down the steps. His cold eyes pierced through their defence. Olivia gulped in an attempt to drown the lump in her throat. Her eyes wavered.

"Phe-"

But he had already walked off hands buried in pockets.

"What was that?"

"That scared me..."

"Did you see that?!"

The voices rose again. Some laughing, some continued to gossip. Olivia remained silent. Standing alone with her favourite drink clenched between her fingers.
