this is.......

....awkward......

Brooklyn and Athena sat silently upon the solemn bench. Both clutching at the bottles in their hands, Brooklyn stared into the distance while Athena fiddled with the label wrapped around the drink.

Should I go home now??? Maybe it wasn't a good idea to follow her

"Athena"

Surprised but relieved for the break of silence, Athena turned to look at Brooklyn who was still looking far ahead with thoughtful eyes.

"Do you like Phelium??" Her voice was low.

The question lay heavy in the air. Brooklyn breathed in deeply, then her shoulders dropped a little. The weight that heaved her heart had finally eased a little.

Athena leaned back against the bench. Her eyes looked up at the sky.

Finally....

"There was a time I thought I did," Athena paused, then turned to look at Brooklyn.

"But I realised he's not the one for me, we're just friends, almost siblings even."

The silence came back but this time it felt more comforting.

" I think that there might be someone else I should wait for."

Brooklyn nodded slowly; a wash of relief came over her.

" So, I wanted to tell you, don't hold yourself back. Whoever it is you like, I won't stop you."

"Why?"

Athena scoffed softly at the question.

"I think you already know the reason."

You're my friend, how else could I not root for you?

"Though, you know you should have asked me sooner," Athena gently punched Brooklyn's shoulder. " I don't want any misunderstandings between us."

Upon hearing those words, she no longer felt trapped and the strong menacing feeling melted.

" I really like Phelium," Brooklyn mumbled under her breath.

Athena laughed, "I know"

Brooklyn suddenly felt embarrassed.

How could she tell what I was feeling?

"How can you guys be so similar???" Athena sighed with a frustrated countenance. "When will you guys just tell each other???"

"huh?"

Brooklyn quickly looked at Athena with wide eyes.

Athena shook her head, hiding her grin.

"It's nothing. I should go home now; I'll see you tomorrow!!!"

Athena ran ahead waving her hand at Brooklyn.

"Phelium!!!!"

Athena charged towards him, an arm lock following after.

Phelium stumbled forwards at the sudden drop in height.

"What the hell is it????"

"I had a dream yesterday"

Athena let him go, Phelium rubbed the back of his head.

" A dream?"

"Yeah... you met this girl on the train and she became our best friend."

Well you end up falling for each other but still

" What???" Phelium gave a confused look. Not taking in a single word.

"Oh, and she' really popular!!" Athena continued with brightly lit eyes. " Though I don't think I've ever seen her before....."

Phelium watched her with an exasperated look. He shook his head.

"Whatever, it's just a dream" He bluntly said as he continued to walk ahead.

Athena scowled behind him.

"You'll see. It will happen"

The following week, Phelium took the usual morning train to school. His earphones playing music in an attempt to keep him awake. The doors slid open, a crowd clambered on forcing him to take steps to the side.

Grimacing from the amount of people, he turned his head to the left. A girl with long hair stood by the following doors, her eyes fixed outside. Before he could check the uniform, more people had entered blocking his view.

Phelium shrugged his shoulders. There's no way her prediction could be true.

That same morning a new student walked into their form room. Her hair flowed behind her, a sparkling aura surrounding the girl. the whole class was entranced and excited by the newcomer.

At the back of the classroom, Phelium rested his head upon his arm, staring at the window. Athena sat nearby and loud - whispered at Phelium.

"It's her!!! It's really her!!!"

"Huh??" Phelium looked at the front where the girl stood. He made eye contact, suddenly recognising her.

What.......she's the girl from the train this morning......

He looked at Athena who still wore a shocked gaze.

"You are one crazy child."
