Chapter 13 (part 2) - Final Episode of season one

"What is Dylan to you?"

Layla's eyes widened as the question echoed in her head. She hadn't expected Ethan to ask such a question but she wanted to know why he was asking.

"W-what do you mean?"

Layla asked as she stuttered, clearly affected by the question.
Ethan stayed quiet for a moment, staring at the floor. Thinking of how to word his explanation to her without sounding jealous

"I mean...what's your relationship with her?" Ethan asked bluntly.

"My relationship with her...? We're..just friends."

Ethan looked at her in disbelief and clearly unconvinced by her words. Did she think he was naive or something?

"Layla...you're a terrible liar."

"Ethan I-"

"You like her, don't you?" He said cutting her off.
It hurt him to ask but he had to know. He didn't know how he would deal with her answer but he knew he had to deal with it somehow.

"What? No...that's ridiculous. What's going on with you? Is this why you're being weird?"

"Just answer it, Layla."

"Why are you pressuring me to answer you?"

"How do you feel about her? Is she the one you've been spending time with when we aren't around?"

"Quit it with the questions, Ethan!"

"I just want an answer! I just want to understand!"

Layla looked at him with confusion but mostly, disbelief. She didn't understand why he was being so unreasonably pushy, especially with this.

"I don't want to say."

"Why not? Is there something you're hiding? From me? From the rest of us?"

"Ethan, don't you see how unfair you're being right now?"

"I just want an answer. That's all I ask. Why are you having a problem saying it if it isn't a big deal?"

"Fine! You want to know?"

Layla said with frustration as she looked at him. She looked down after a while and spoke quietly

"...I do like her but I just don't see why you care?"

"Hold on...so does that mean—"

"I am. But..what's it to you."

Layla said clearly upset now that Ethan pushed for an answer and got one unwillingly.

"I didn't think you would ever be this unreasonable. But..I see that you've proved me wrong." She added, betrayed that Ethan would ever make her do such a thing.

Ethan stayed silent, clearly regretting his actions and feeling guilty for putting Layla in such a situation.

Layla spoke again.

"There's nothing going on between us. She just thinks we're friends.
Though I didn't think I'd ever have to owe you an answer. I hope you're happy you got the answer you needed."

Layla said before brushing past him and walking away with slumped shoulders.
