Chapter 6
The next morning I wake up to Steve cuddling me as the little spoon. One arm draped around my belly, holding the baby, and the other under my head.
I look around the room looking for the time. My eyes fall on a clock that reads 6:50 am. I sit up which causes Steve to wake up too.
He smiles at me. "Good morning beautiful."
I blush and smile at him. "Good morning."
I start getting off the bed and he grabs my hand and furrows his brow. "Where are you going?"
"I have to leave before the kids wake up. I don't want them to know I spent the night let alone find me in here, in bed, with their dad," I say a little alarmed.
"Christian," he sighs looking at me with worry in his eyes. "Are the kids going to be a problem for us?"
"What? No!" I whisper yell, climbing a little closer to him in the bed. I lean over to hold his face. "They just don't deserve to find out about this, like this. Their after school teacher laying in bed with their dad. That's gotta be confusing."
"Yeah you're right. I've never brought another woman around them since their mom. So I'll tell them about us, no secrets."
I sit back down on my legs and sigh.
"There's nothing to tell them. Its not like I'm your girlfriend. This isn't official."
He sits up. "Well then let's make it official. Can I take you out tonight on a proper date?"
I laugh at him surprised. "What?"
"Let me make things right. I want to ask you right here, right now to be my girlfriend, but you deserve way more than waking up in my bed to that question. So let me take you out tonight, let me court you right, and then I'll tell the kids. When we're ready. On your terms. No secrets. No hiding."
I bite my lip and nod. "Okay."
He smiles and scootches over to me cupping my face and kisses me softly.

I was able to sneak out of the house before the kids woke up and make it home safely.
When I've settled on the couch, my phone starts ringing. It's Steve.
"Hello," I answer.
"Hey I just wanted to make sure you made it home safe."
"I did. Just got comfy on the couch. Thank you for calling to check on me."
"Of course. I miss you already. I shouldn't have let you leave."
I chuckle at him. "Steve, I couldn't stay forever."
"I wish you could," he whispers.
It makes me smile to know he wants me around so much. My heart flutters at the idea of being with Steve all day everyday.
"Can I ask where we're going tonight?"
"It's a surprise."
"How do I know how to dress if I don't know where we're going? What am I supposed to wear? That's not fair," I pout over the phone.
"Sorry Christian. A surprise is a surprise."
"Well can I get a hint or a suggestion? Something?"
"Okay I'll tell you this. We are going to walk a little, so whatever you wear make sure you can walk in them. We're definitely going somewhere upscale, but it's a casual place not too hoity toity. It's got a warm vibe to it. It's definitely a hidden gem in the city."
