The next week once the holidays were over I was back at work filling in Kat about all of my holiday shenanigans.

"I am so upset I wasn't present at your gender reveal, these pictures look so great," she cried as she swiped through photos. "Omg and you guys at Christmas, Christian, you're gonna make me cry."

"Awe girl I know you would've been there if you didn't have to go to Puerto Rico for your granddad."

Kat spent the whole 3 weeks we had for break in Puerto Rico burying her granddad and helping her family arrange his funeral.

"How was that by the way?"

She sighed. "Sad, but he was suffering. This was better for him, y'know? But my abuelita- she's mad at the world. She can't understand why God would take him. He was literally the sweetest man in the planet."

She sniffled. "I'm just glad he's in a better place ab CD it's over."

I leaned over to give her a hug.

"I'm sorry."

She shrugged, then smiled. "Tell me again about how you told that Botox bitch off."

I laughed and recited the story to her.

"Oooh girl that part about calling the baby 'ours', I know that had to get her."

We talked some more about our holiday break and caught back up with the kids in after school care. Our little ones really missed us.

"My mom did nothing with us the whole time Ms. Christian. It's like I was better off here and I hate school," one of the kids said.

"Well maybe now you'll appreciate us more."

"For sure. I don't ever wanna be away, at my house, like that again."

I felt so bad for him. He just didn't know- spring back and summer were right around the corner.

I continued with my day checking in on Ainsley and Travis until my shift was over. I was taking them home this afternoon, because Steve had a late day at the office.

When 6:30 rolled around I gathered the kids and we walked out through the main lobby of the school.

Standing there talking to my director was Michael and a beautiful woman. I stopped the kids immediately and pulled them behind a wall so we couldn't be seen.

"What happened?"

I didn't know which one of the kids asked. I was too busy trying to think of why or how Michael was here. My breathing became labored.

"Christian? Are you okay," Travis asked.

I looked at him bewildered, gulped and nodded.

"Ye-yeah," I said shakily.

"You don't look okay," Ainsley said concerned.

"I'm gonna be fine. I just need to breathe."

But I wasn't breathing. I felt myself getting lightheaded and my belly start constricting very tight. I was having alarming contractions. I groaned as I grabbed my belly and the room began spinning.

"C-call your dad."

"What?" Ainsley asked.

"Call your dad!" It was the last thing I remembered saying before the room went black.

When I came to I was surrounded by Steve, the kids and the paramedics. I was in the back of an ambulance with an oxygen mask on my face.
