Snarls, growls and sharp nips woke me up from my sleep. I stood up and shook the snow from my coat. I was encircled in a ring of wolves, but once they noticed my size all but one bowed in submission. I suspect the wolf left on her feet is the Alpha of the pack. The dark grey wolf was large for an average wolf. I towered over her still. My muscles protruded more than hers did. I heard a quite growl from the she-wolf and bowed my head respectfully but I did not bow completely down to show that I still am a dominant wolf. The alpha shook her head and did her best to fluff herself up and look bigger than me. If I was in my human form I would laugh at her attempts. Instead I tucked my tail and lowered myself a little bit more. I had to submit to her If I was going go join the pack. I whimpered quietly and made myself appear weak. I am not a naturally submissive person. The only thing that kept me down in this position was the words that the scientists said. You fail. you die. Even though I am laying down on my belly my ears and head still stand above hers. The other pack members come up and smell me then jump back. The alpha turns and trots away with the pack following her. I stand up and walk with them. We walk for an hour or two before we reach a bushel of trees. The trees look like they were planted in a large circle on purpose. The limbs and leaves mesh together above and keep snow from falling in the clearing. Frozen dirt and few scraps of grass grow here. Three enormous boulders leaning on one another forms a massive cave that smells solely of these wolves. The clearing seemed very neat and orderly. It surprised me to see how "civilized" this pack was. Small holes were dug on the outer walls of the clearing were the ground was not heated by sun. I walked stiff legged to the side of the clearing where the holes where. I stuck my nose into the hole and the smell of fresh kill was almost intoxicating. With a loud growl and a loud rustling noise a male wolf crashed into my side barreling me over. Before I right myself another male wolf jumped up and snapped his jaws around the tip of my ear. He kept his teeth closed but pulled off my ear causing it to shred. With a loud huff I stood up and turned to face my attackers. They stood in front of me and tried to walk me back into a tree trunk trapping me. I didn't let their efforts effect me. I paced forward a few steps and easily moved through them. The only thing the did was turn and nip my ankles. I turned with a swipe of my plate sized paw and smacked one in the ear. He let out a piercing wail and ran off in the other direction.

Maybe if I bring back kill for the alpha and put some fresh kill in the holes already dug, I can get on Alpha's good side. I pushed through a gap in the brush line and laid down with my head on my paws. I inhaled deeply and listened to the scuffling of tiny claws on the leaves. I rotated my ears in the direction of the scuffling. A mouse was rooting around in the roots of a tree looking seeds. When it found one it sat back on its haunches a nibbled at the seed. Taking this as my chance; I slowly crept up on the mouse putting all my weight on my haunches. When I was a foot away from the mouse I shot forward and crushed it quickly with my paw. I moved my kill away from the blood and buried it in a shallow hole. I walked away a few meters and laid down to listen again. A soft breeze blew the smell of a rabbit my direction. I followed the scent to an old dat rabbit huddled under a bush licking dew off the leaves. I could feel its heart beat in my paws and see its sides move when it breathed. I shot out of my hiding spot and startled the rabbit. It took off at a slower pace and with y enhanced speed I was able to reach it quickly. When I got close enough I snapped my jaws on it back leg causing it to scream. I threw it up in the air and jumped to catch it. My teeth pierced its throat and warm liquid flooded my mouth. Dragging the rabbit turned out to be a difficult task. It dangled from my mouth at a weird angle and it weighed my head down to one side. I drug the rabbit up to where I had buried the mouse and dropped it on the ground. I scraped the earth away from the mouse and I picked up both the rabbit and mouse in my jaws. I trotted back to the clearing and put the mouse in one of the holes. I looked around for the alpha and when I spotted her she was disappearing in a cavern above the cave. I lugged the rabbit up to the top of the ledge and walked through the cavern entrance. The alpha was laying her head on her paws when I walked in. She sniffed the air and looked at the rabbit hungrily. I laid the fat piece of meat at her paws and liked her head respectfully. She licked my cheek and tucked into her rabbit. I clambered back down to the clearing and looked around. It was strange the way everything was organized. The pups stayed in one tunnel that lead underground with their mother. Another tunnel that opened up into a large space held the younger wolves and a hollowed out log in the rock is where the elders settled down. The wolves had a different language all their own. I was starting to pick up on it. They had actually stayed quite only talking to one another in the dog tongue. They talk a language that as a wolf I understand. To a person it would only sound like yips and barks. Maybe tomorrow I will be able to get them to use words with me. I went off to where snow had gathered and I made myself another snow den to sleep in. When the sun went down, I closed my eyes to rest.
