"How did you guys know that I remembered anyways?"

Evelyn was walking me back and I was still asking a ton of questions.

"There's a vampire in the council that can read minds."

I thought back to the girl who had been staring at me. It was probably her. No wonder she had stared weirdly. How unfair, yet so advantageous.

"So the Student Council really is made up of all vampires?"

"Yeah, pretty much," she said while scolding a student running down the hall.

I was still kind of shocked by this dilemma.

"So do they...you know...drink the blood of all the students here?" I lowered my voice in case any passerby was listening in.

"What do you think?" She raised an eyebrow, chuckled, and stopped in front of the door. I realized with surprise that we had already arrived. "Take care. Try not to get into trouble."

She walked away briskly while leaving me there to think. When I walked in, Lillian was on the phone. I laid on my bed and waited for her to finish the call.

"...Okay. Cool. See you then! Love you."

After she hung up, I looked at her. "Who was that?"

"Boyfriend. He has a free day this week so I was hoping you guys could meet. Maybe sometime in town," she said excited.

"Sure."

"Yay! You'll love him. I promise!"

"I'm sure I will," I said wryly.

"Oh, so what did the principal want?"

I paused. "Nothing. Just wanted to you know talk about my aunt, since they knew each other. It was sort of like an introduction."

She flipped idly through her magazine. "Oh. He's a cool dude."

"Yeah. Anyways, I'm gonna head out again for a walk. Bored in here."

"Have fun," she was staring intently at a model on the page.

I walked around thinking again. The cold air bit my skin and I covered myself up even more with my jacket. Up ahead, I noticed Julie walking alone. I hurried to catch up to her but hesitated when I saw Alec walking towards her. He gave her a bright smile, and started talking to her. She seemed to melt on the spot.

What the hell? What was he playing at? He continued to chat amiably with her, even putting an arm casually around her. I gaped at them while other students also casted envious glares at her.

Stalking up to them, I pasted on a fake smile, shoved Alec out of the way, and grabbed Julie's arm.

"Hey! What's up?"

"I--Oh hey Emma," she said with a timid look at Alec. I turned around to him and gave him a smile. He gave me a smile in return. A what-the-hell-are-you-doing, you're-so-dead smile.

I glanced at Julie who was staring at him in wonder, then back at him. "Hey. How are you?"

He seemed to grit his teeth. "Just dandy. Can I talk to you for a sec?"

Without waiting for a reply, he grabbed my arm and dragged me towards a more secluded area. I could practically feel the fire from the glares behind me.

"Hey! That hurts!"

He ignored me--as usual--and glowered at me. "What are you doing?"

"What are you doing?! I hope you weren't planning to attack her something," I retorted stubbornly.
