"Hiccup, come on, we are going to be late." Astrid was attempting to pull Hiccup to the academy. You see, Hiccup had asked Astrid to be his girlfriend yesterday. Resulting in a bruised shoulder, because he waited so long to ask.
The real problem though, was telling their friends. Hiccup knew that the first three would be okay with it, but Snotlout? Hiccup was sure he was going to at least get punched somewhere. "I won't let him hurt you." Astrid groaned, as she continued to pull Hiccup down the slope. He had dug his metal prosthetic into the ground in attempt to slow down the process.
"It's not me I'm worried about, Astrid." Hiccup had concern in his eyes as he said it. Astrid stopped pulling on him. She turned back to him with confusion in her eyes. "Snotlout, has been after you for years, Astrid." Hiccup spoke." I have no idea what he's going to think after we tell him." Hiccup sighed. " I don't want to see you hurt, by his words, or his actions."
Astrid put her palm to his check and brushed her thumb back and forth in a comforting way. "Hiccup, don't worry about me." Then she giggled. "There is absolutely nothing that Snotlout could say that would hurt me, and if he even tried to touch me, I would break his arm before he could." She reached up and brushed Hiccup's lips win hers. "But, thank you."
Hiccup sighed in defeat and put his arm around Astrid as they continued their walk to the academy. This time Hiccup didn't drag his feet, but he was still hesitant.
Toothless and Stormfly bounded in front of them seeing that the academy was close. They slipped through the slanted stone archway and sat next to the other dragons. Hiccup gave Astrid a squeeze before Letting go of her and heading in. Astrid close behind him.
When they entered they were met with Snotlout pinning Tuffnut to the ground Fishlegs standing in the middle looking quite pleased that Astrid and Hiccup were arriving and Ruffnut hitting herself with a fish demanding to see stars. Hiccup looked to Astrid and she nodded, asking him to continue,
"Hey, guys, Astrid and I have something to share." Everything stopped. When their two names were put together in a sentence it was usually important. Hiccup paused, not sure how to say it.
" Well, get on with it! I need to get training, so I can go take a beauty nap." Snotlout snapped. Behind him, Hiccup swore he thought he heard Astrid gag.
"Astrid and I are dating." Hiccup finally croaked out. You could hear a pin drop. It was dead silent. Then Fishlegs broke it,
"Yes! Finally, I knew it would happen one day......" Fishlegs trailed off, seeing that everyone was watching him. Snotlout seemed to be in a trance,
"But-but-but, how....?" Astrid began to laugh. She walked up to him and waved her hand in front of his face.
"Well, I guess training is done for today." Astrid said full of pride. "Let's go, Hiccup." She turned and grabbed his arm and pulled him out. Both of them mounting their dragon and taking off, heading for the cove. Once they landed, Hiccup broke the awkward silence.
"Well, that went better than I thought it would."
