Today was a special day, atleast that's how I felt. Tomorrow would be Ryder's birthday, and I was very much excited about it. And because of that occasion, I took an day off work, wanting to prepare a bit for his birthday. I asked Adriana to come, and to help me prepare his favourite meal.
I mean I am not a bad cook, but Adriana was definitely better. And since Ryder is her son, I know that she will be able to help me to prepare the best meal for him.
Of course she agreed to do so, and at around 11 am she had come over, smiling at me when I opened the door for her. She hugged me before walking inside, taking her shoes off before walking into the living room with me.
"What did you think of making?" She asked me, again, her spanish accent lacing in her voice. I really liked her accent.
"To be honest I have no plan, that's why I called you, since you are his mother I thought that you would be able to help me out." I said while scratching the back of my neck, an awkward smile on my face as she raised her eyebrow at me.
In the next moment she started laughing softly before sitting down on the couch, patting the spot next to herself. I sat down next to her, looking at her curious.
"Of course I will help you with that, Hermosa. But first of all, I need to talk to you." She said and her voice turned serious, making me look at her confused but also serious.
"How far are you?" She asked, and I got even more confused.
"Excuse me?" I asked, obviously confused which made her chuckle.
"You may be able to keep it from Mei or the other's, but you can't fool me, mamá." She said while smiling at me, and when I realised what she meant, my eyes widened a bit while a blush out of embarrassment appeared on my cheeks.
"Oh." I just said, being speechless as my hand automatically placed on my stomach. A sigh left my mouth before a small laugh escaped my mouth.
"Well, I am nine weeks pregnant now." I said and she smiled at me, while I smiled back at her.
"I knew it!" She said and was obviously excited, her eyes somewhat shining as she looked back into my eyes.
"I am sorry for not telling you. Ryder and I decided to wait till I am atleast twelve weeks pregnant, to make sure the baby is safe before we start telling others." I explained and she just smiled.
"Don't worry, I understand that. Yet you can't fool a mother." She chuckled and I looked at her curiously.
"What gave it away?"
"Ah, I am not sure. It was just a feeling somewhat. I guess that the way Ryder started to treat you, reminded me of the way Carlos treated me after he found out I was pregnant, both times. He became more protective, and wouldn't let me out alone." She chuckled, looking out of the window while smiling.
At moments like this, when she talked about Carlos like that, I was sad that I never got to know him. He seemed like a great man, and from what she and Ryder told me, Ryder seemed to be a lot like his father.
"Yeah, Ryder seems to be a lot like his father." I chuckled and she smiled.
"That's true. He also looks a lot like him." And she smiled.
"I have never seen a photo of him. Would you show me some?" I asked, and her eyes seemed to brighten when she heard me ask that.
"Of course, give me a moment." She stood up and left the living room, and I waited there patiently for a few minutes.
Then she came back with two photo albums in her hands, sitting down next to me again. And then we spent around two hours looking through the albums, her telling me old stories from Ryder, Alejandro and Carlos.
