After that meeting with the guys from the mafia, the two of us walked out, his arms protectively around my waist as he pulled me with him to his office. As we entered, he locked the door behind him.
"I bet you have a lot of questions. Just ask away." He said, a sigh leaving his mouth as he walked towards his desk, sitting down.
I walked over to him, placing myself on his lap as I put my arms around his shoulders, leaning my head against him.
"Just let's stay like this for a moment, I am exhausted." I said and closed my eyes, feeling his arms wrapping around me.
"Whatever you want, mi reina." He said, his face hiding into the crook of my neck as we just held each other close. After a while, I felt like I was ready to ask questions.
"What did he mean with that ball?"
"Like he said, whenever a Capo has found a partner, they need to hold a ball. It's a tradition in the mafia to do so. It's being held to show off their partner, and to show that they're not allowed to be hurt. If so, a war between the mafias will break out, and we all dont want that." He explained and I nodded.
"We have something like a codex." He started and I raised my head, looking into his eyes curiously.
"The partner of a Capo is taboo, they're not allowed to get hurt, if so, you need to know for sure that there will start a war. That's why the ball is being held, so everyone knows who the partner is and no one tries anything wrong." He said and I nodded to show him I understood.
"I understand that. But... do we really need to do that?" I asked, feeling weird to think about the thought of it. From what I understood, I would be the focuse of that ball, and I didn't know if I would enjoy that.
"We do, I want to know that you're safe. I couldn't stand the thought of you and the baby getting hurt." He said and I furrowed my eyebrows.
"Are you only doing this because I am pregnant..?" I asked and his eyes widened.
"Pendejo, I am doing this because I love you. I had set this meeting already one week ago, so the fact that I found out we're having a baby didn't change anything besides that I want this even more now. I need to know that you two are safe. You are my world." He said and I could feel tears forming in my eyes, feeling overwhelmed.
"Shh don't cry." He whispered as he just held me close, and we stayed like that for a while. Just sitting in silence, holding each other close as we were comforting the other with our presence.
When we both were ready to go, we went home. Ryder cooked dinner for us as I sat on the kitchen counter, talking to him. Then we were interrupted by a special someone.
"Agh I am so tired." He said, making sure everyone heard him as he leaned his head against my shoulder.
"Qué tal, chica?" He said and I looked over at him.
"Just talking to Ryder. You only got off work now?" I asked and he sighed while nodding.
"Ryder decided it would be good that I take over more tasks in the mafia, so now I am busier than usual." He explained and I glanced at Ryder, who was already looking at me. He quickly looked down again, continuing to cook.
"Poor tonto." I said as I patted his head in a teasing way, making him roll his eyes as he scoffed.
"Don't treat me like a child." He said and I just laughed at that, looking at him, which seemed to annoy him even more as he turned around to leave.
"I will go change."
"Bye bye kiddo!"
"Oh fuck off!"
