Stevie had been ready for hours. She was excited and super nervous at the same time. She and Lindsey were going on their official first date. Another week passed since they'd made out outside her apartment and she begged him to stay for the night. A small part of her was filled with doubt because he didn't mention it at all for days and he had countless opportunities. He approached her on Thursday as she was getting ready to leave the office, asking if she was free on Friday and those butterflies had been awake in her stomach ever since.
Lindsey didn't tell Stevie where they were going. He only said that it's not dinner at a restaurant. She begged him for details, after all she had to know how to dress. Somehow he managed to give her the idea without giving the rest away.
The doorbell rang at 5:58 pm, Lindsey said, he'd come at 6. Stevie took a couple deep breaths as she went to let him in, catching her appearance as she passed by a mirror. A smile crossed her face as soon as she saw Lindsey, dressed down, but as handsome as ever.
"Is this okay?" Stevie asked, twirling around.
"Perfect." Lindsey nodded with a smile and stepped closer, he gripped her sides and leaned in for a kiss.
"Let me remind you that this is our first date." Stevie gave him a pointed look as she wiped lip gloss off his lips with her thumb. "I don't know you like that yet."
Lindsey laughed, taking a step back. "Got it. Can I at least hold your hand?"
Stevie left him standing by the door to locate her purse. She returned to his side shortly and slid her hand in his. They walked out of the apartment building, hands still clasped and headed towards Lindsey's car. He made sure to get to the passenger's side door first, so he could open it for her.
"So, where are we going?" Stevie asked yet again.
Lindsey leaned over to her side and opened the glove compartment, he pulled out an envelope and handed it to Stevie. She eyed him, suspicious, as he fastened the seatbelt and turned the engine on. Stevie held up the envelope, trying to see through to what was inside and he laughed, telling her that she could actually open it instead.
"Haim tickets?!" Stevie exclaimed and Lindsey winced a little. "Are you fucking kidding me? I love them!"
Lindsey looked to his right briefly, mentally patting himself on the back. "Yeah, I know. You always say, you want to see them, but never do."
"You actually listen, when I talk." Stevie laughed, laying her hand over his, she squeezed it gently. "Linds, thank you, but I'm sure this isn't your idea of the perfect first date."
"Well, they're not bad." Lindsey shrugged. "I'll survive. After the show, we're gonna do something I love."
Stevie smiled and leaned in closer to press a kiss to his cheek. "Deal."
They got to the venue just in time to find their seats. Stevie couldn't contain her excitement, when she realized what a great view of the stage they had. The lights soon went down and the show began. Lindsey smiled at Stevie, who immediately started clapping and chanting with the rest of the crowd. He remembered all of his other first dates and how absolutely boring they were. Then again, what else are you supposed to do but go to dinner with a person you barely know. He knew Stevie, though.
"Oh my God, that was amazing!" Stevie clung to Lindsey, his arm firmly wrapped around her as they were slowly walking out along with thousands of other people.
"You enjoyed that?" Lindsey asked to make sure, not that he had to.
"Thank you." She said again and pecked him on the lips.
Back in Lindsey's car, Stevie was humming one of the songs, while Lindsey tried to get them out of the parking lot and back on the road. He was very aware of her palm warming up his leg, but he didn't think she had any ideas, she did it naturally and that meant way more to him.
"What's next?" Stevie asked.
"We're getting some junk food." Lindsey replied and turned to look at her. "Seriously. That's what I love."
Stevie started laughing, but stopped quickly, when he shrugged. "Really? You take me to see one of my favorite bands and for your part of the night, we're getting a burger and fries?"
"Doesn't that sound fantastic?" Lindsey grinned, nodding his head.
Apparently, Lindsey wasn't joking. They went to a drive-through and he handed her a pretty heavy bag of delicious, greasy goodness. Stevie wasn't going to admit it out loud, but her mouth had started watering.
"Is this okay?" Lindsey asked, turning the engine off.
Stevie looked around, she noticed several other cars around them and gorgeous view of the city at night in front of them. "This is..." She shrugged, then turned to face him. "Perfect."
