"So, what do you want to do tonight?" Lindsey asked, hearing pages of a magazine being flipped.
"I don't know. Stay in?" Stevie suggested. "We can cook something for dinner together."
"Yeah? Like what?" Lindsey was already in the kitchen, he opened the fridge. "We can make scrambled eggs."
"We can, for breakfast." Stevie added, laughing.
"Oh, so you're staying the night?" Lindsey smiled to himself, checking the cupboards.
"Well, yeah." Stevie replied as if there was no other option. "Unless you have another hot date you have to get to after me."
"No, no. No one else, just you." Lindsey leaned against the kitchen counter. "I have absolutely no food at home."
"I can grab some things on my way." Stevie said. "We can make pizza."
"If by that you mean we place an order, someone makes it and brings it to us, then sure." He heard her sigh. "Alright, we can make pizza."
"I'll be at yours at around 7." Stevie informed him, to which Lindsey laughed.
"Okay, see you at 8."
Checking the time, Lindsey counted how much time he had before seeing Stevie. It had been a busy week and his apartment was a mess. Rolling up his sleeves, he got to work. He started off with washing dishes from the night before, he stripped the bed and did the laundry, he dusted and mopped the floors until he finally collapsed on the couch, wiping sweat off his forehead. Things with Stevie were going great, he didn't want her to think that he was getting too comfortable.
Stevie had a similar day, keeping herself busy until it was time to shower and leave to get to Lindsey's. It felt like they were dating, but they weren't. At least, not officially yet. They had been doing all the things that couples do for the past month, yet they feared putting any labels on their blossoming relationship. She no longer saw him as a friend and she told him that. She hadn't told him that she loved him yet, but she definitely had developed romantic feelings for him. It was scary, but it was exciting at the same time. They skipped the awkward stage of getting to know each other and the transition between friendship and relationship was happening naturally. They might not have been ready to call each other boyfriend and girlfriend yet, but Stevie was absolutely sure that no other man had ever treated her or made her as happy as Lindsey did.
The doorbell rang a little past 8, Lindsey didn't expect Stevie to come early. He greeted her with a kiss and took the groceries from her to carry the bag to the kitchen. Stevie followed after Lindsey, unable to keep her hands off him, she hugged him from behind and squeezed him lightly, making him smile.
"A little change of plans." Lindsey spoke up after Stevie had let him go. "So, uh..." He scratched the back of his head, smiling at her sheepishly. "My mom's coming over."
"What?!" Stevie exclaimed. "What the hell? Why didn't you tell me?"
"Because she called like an hour ago." Lindsey looked at her apologetically. "I didn't want to say anything because you would have backed out and I really wanted to see you. But it's okay, she's not staying for long, I promise."
"No offense, Linds, but I know your mother." Stevie gave him a pointed look, arms folded. "She's not leaving after half an hour, she's going to insist on cooking dinner for us and stay to eat with us."
"I promise, that's not going to happen." Lindsey shook his head, approaching Stevie, he circled his arms around her waist.
"I would have appreciated a heads-up, you know." Stevie lowered her eyes, she started picked at her nails.
"There's nothing for you to worry about." Lindsey assured, gently grasping her chin, he tilted her head up. "My mom loves you."
"And I love her, too, but the last time I saw her, you and I hadn't sucked and licked every inch of each other's bodies yet! It's different now." Stevie pulled away to look for the bottle of wine she'd brought with groceries.
"Well..." Lindsey had to fight back laughter. "Maybe don't point that out and you'll be great. I'm sorry." He apologized, putting his arm around her back again, he kissed her cheek. "I'll make it up to you. I'll lick and suck every inch of your body once we're alone." He promised, making her blush.
Stevie took a deep breath and exhaled heavily, she nodded her head. "Okay. I better start working on dinner, show your mother what a wonderful daughter-in-law I'd make." She laughed at the shocked expression on Lindsey's face.
