AN: Hey! Thank you for your lovely comments, I'm glad you're enjoying this ♥ Just wanted to say that the beginning isn't the most exciting and the chapters are a bit short, but we'll get there if you stick around ♥ I've been in a similar situation myself, when it just never seems to be the right time, so this story is kind of based around that.

Lindsey tapped his fingers on the arm rests of his chair, mentally counting down minutes until he could leave the office without getting scolded for leaving too early. He hadn't been overly motivated for weeks now and it had absolutely everything to do with Stevie. It was just a misunderstanding really. If she had only let him explain. Well, she did, kinda, but he couldn't find the words. He just didn't think that he would ever get the opportunity to open up to her and when he finally did, he couldn't, in fear of ruining their friendship completely.

As if his thoughts had summoned her, Stevie rushed past Lindsey's office. He didn't think about it, when he yelled out her name and a second later she stood in the doorway. Realizing that he had probably stayed silent for too long, judging by the look on her face, Lindsey cleared his throat and rose to his feet.

"Can I have a minute of your time, please?" He asked, slowly approaching her.

"I don't think you could have made that sound more formal if you'd tried." Stevie said, taking a step forward, she closed the door behind her. "Is that where we are now?"

"No. At least, I hope not." Lindsey shook his head slightly. "You seem to be in a rush."

"I am." Stevie replied, checking the time on her phone. "I'm- I'm having dinner. With Tom." She added, not entirely sure why.

Lindsey struggled to mask his surprise. "You're, uh... You're back-"

"No, we're not anything." Stevie answered before he finished his question. "We ran into each other a couple of weeks ago, got to talking." She shrugged. "After all, we were together for years, so..."

"No, of course." Lindsey nodded. "I mean-" He stuck his hands in his pants' pockets. "It's only natural that you'd want to give it another try." He said even though it tore his heart apart.

"It's not that." Stevie said. "It's- I don't know, what it is yet. Or maybe ever going to be." She added. "Anyway, I'm not sure, why I'm explaining myself to you. So, what's up? You wanted to say something to me?"

"I, uh..." Lindsey began, then sighed heavily and a sad smile appeared on his face. "Never mind, it's not that important. It can wait until morning."

"You sure?" She gave him a questioning look, eyebrow raised.

"Yeah, yeah." Lindsey assured. "Absolutely. Have a lovely evening." He forced himself to say.
