My POV

I sit in the cab trying to keep it together. I tell the guy to take me to the airport he does. As soon as I step out of the cab and pay the fee I cry. Hot tears stream down my face as I go through security. How could he not have recognized me? How could have been so unlike himself? What the hell had happened to him?

4 hours later.

I sit and watch as my mother slowly slips from the world. I had already lost Louis and I couldn't lose my mum. And yet she is barely alive now. She gives me a weak smile.

"Erica, always remember... Live Today as if to Die Tomorrow. Dream as if to Live Forever," and with that she drew her final breath. Right at midnight. I wipe my eyes and hold her hand in mine.

My dad comes in and rubs my back. "It's okay honey... We will all miss her...everything will- never mind," he says. He was gonna say everything will be okay. But how can it be if my mother's dead? I pick up my phone and turn it on. 35 new texts. 3 from the girls saying call me when you can and 32 from Louis and I delete every one of them. If he wanted me to forgive him I would need a sincere apology. He would have to come here. In person. But the new him probably wouldn't.

Louis's POV

I had sent Erica 32 texts. She didn't respond to any of them. So I texted Kay

Me- Dude where is Erica?

Kay- Didn't she tell u?

Me- What? What happened

Kay- Her mom was hit by a drunk driver

Me- WHAT???? Why didn't she tell me?

Kay- Idk did u try texting her

Me- yeah 32 times. She hasn't responded once

Kay- U sound desperate and uh why so many?

Me- Long story, basically I saw her, didn't recognize her. She got mad and ran so yeah.

Kay- LOUIS!!!!! U know she has feelings for you and basically you just like... U know

Me- She does?

Kay- Boys...

Me- what do I do?

Kay- idk go see her.

Me- Okay!

I drive to the airport after calling Harry and explaining the dilemma.

"Hi yes, can I get the soonest flight to Doncaster?" I ask the lady working the desk.

"Sorry that one's all booked. Next one doesn't leave until tomorrow at noon. Would you like tickets for that one?" she asks. look at my watch. It was ten.

"No thanks." I storm out and hop in my car. There was only one option left. I would drive.

Three hours later. (1 a.m.)

Louis's POV

I pull up to the hospital. I park my car and run inside.

"Hi I'm looking for Rose Smith." I say tapping the desk.

"I'm sorry dear. Her body has already been moved," Says the nurse.

"What do you mean?" I say.

"Honey, she died an hour ago." I stay there opened mouth.

"Well where's her family?"

"They left to go home like two minutes before you came in." she says before returning to her work. I silently curse.

"Thanks." I mumble. I run to my car and drive home. When I get there the light at my house are on. I park my car and walk in. Silence echoes through the house giving me an eerie feeling. I walk in the living room.

"Hey everyone," I say.

"Oh Louis!" shrieks my mom before giving me a hug. So do my sisters. Mr. Smith is here but I don't see Erica.

"I'm sorry for your lost sir." I say. He nods. "Where is Erica?" I ask.

"Louis leave her alone until tomorrow she needs time." my mom says.

"Okay." I respond. I climb my stars to my room and look at my windows. Erica's blinds are closed but here lights on. I open up my window and throw a pencil at hers. Nothing. I grab two more and throw them too. Erica rolls up her blinds and then sees me. She instantly closes them again. WTF? I call her but she doesn't respond. But then she sends me a text.

Meet me you know where tomorrow at six a.m.

Nothing else. I text back. No reply. But I see her light turn off. I'll just have to wait...

My POV

I sit on the stump of our tree. I look at my watch. It's 5:57. He would be here in a few minutes. I can't believe he came. I didn't even tell him too. I turn around and look at the new shopping center going up. It had been a month ago I found out what was happening and they had already poured the foundation for a few stores. It just made me mad. The branch in my backyard had actually somehow started to grow after I planted it. It was a miracle really. And it made me happy. I heard the snapping of the branches and he emerged from the woods as I turned back around to face him.

"What the carrot happened here?" he yelled. Apparently he hasn't heard.

"Shopping plaza." I whisper. As he came closer. I stand up, my eyes meeting with his.

"Where is our tree?" he asks looking around.

"You mean this old thing?" I ask kicking the stump. I saw Louis grimace as if I was kicking him as did I.

"Who did this?"

"Mr. Brown. Lawrence's dad. I broke up with him. But this was arranged before we broke up." I say. Louis frowns.

"Soooo what are you doing?" I ask.

"I'm sorry about yesterday... I didn't recognize you. And then when I heard about your mom and all..."

"Oh," Was all I could manage. Did he just come for her funeral?

"Erica, look, I've been to tell you this since January 9th, 2008." He said. Tears pricked in my eyes. That had been the day of the dance.

"I love you." he says. Then and there my heart shatters. He presses his lips until to me. And it was the best kiss I had ever had. We break away, tears stinging my eyes.

"Louis, I'm sorry. I love you too. But... We shouldn't be together. It won't work. I'm sorry."
