Today is Louis's 16th birthday. Oh and it's Christmas eve. I wake up early to shower and make him some carrot cake. While mixing the batter, I get a text from Louis-
I know what u r doing.... Make sure u don't burn it this time..
I roll my eyes. So what? Last time I made him a cake I had fallen asleep on the sofa and burned the cake and almost caught the house on fire. But that was when I was thirteen. Now I'm fourteen and I'm in 8th grade. Louis is in 10th and is loving high school.
I walk over to the window where a fresh sheet of snow is falling. I open a window to let fresh breeze in. I go to the oven and place the batter in the oven. I put a skillet on the stove and put a big slab of butter in it. For Christmas eve, it's a tradition to have French toast. I head to the couch and get a call from Kennedy.
"Hello?" I ask switching on whatever is on tv.
"OMG GUESS WHAT!" Kennedy squeals nearly ruining my ear drum.
"What?" I asked rolling my eyes and smirking.
"Okay so Kay said that Bella heard Ryan say he is gonna ask me to the Starry Night Dance!!!" She squealed as I could picture her jumping around her room.
"Buts that's not until- wait when is it?"
"Uh duh the first Friday back to school!" Kennedy said very matter of factly.
"So how did Bella hear that Ryan was-"
"She saw him at Bills Donut Shop," she replied popping the gum in her mouth.
"Oh," I said switching to the weather channel. It was bloody freezing.
"Soooooooo who are you going with???" Kennedy questioned.
"I don't know... I don't really think any of the boys are cute," I replied twirling my finger around a piece of my hair.
"You could ask Louis," she suggested. I gasped and felt my heart stop.
"I-I," I stuttered.
"OH SO YOU DO HAVE A CRU-"
"NO! Well it's just I don't think anyone who doesn't go to our school is allowed," I said. There was no way I was going to embarrass myself by asking Louis to the dance. I knew he didn't have feelings for me.... Right?
"Nonsense! Remember how Emma went with Jim Carter last year and Jim Carter was a Junior," Kennedy replied.
"Well yeah but she was a slut," I snickered.
"Oh c'mon! You don't want to be a loner!" Kennedy cried slamming her hands down in frustration.
"Well I- wait something burning..." I said standing up and looking around.
"Are you cooking again?"
"Oh shoot the cake! Got to go Kennedy." I yelled.
I hung up and run to the kitchen. Well the cakes not on fire but the butter was.
"Oh crap!" I frantically search the kitchen for something to extinguish the mini fire. I turn just in time to see a snowball coming flying through the window landing on the skillet. I turn of the heat and move the skillet into the sink. Louis pops his head in the window.
"That better not have been my cake!" he yells. I laugh.
"Nope that was butter for French toast."
"And once again I save your house from burning down!"
"Hey!"
"You should just stop cooking, in fact."
"Oh really?" I say grabbing a stick of soft butter from behind me. I throw it at him and it hits his nose. Stunned he licks his lips.
"I was hoping it would've been cream cheese," he smiles. Next thing I know another snowball is flying through the window.
"Ekkkk!" I scream. I quickly grab a cookie sheet and use it as a shield.
"Oh it's on now pigeon brain!!!" I scream
"Way ahead of you carrot!" he shouts back. Ding! I put down my shield.
"You're cake is ready. Now fly away so I can finish it."
"Do I have too?" he moans
"Ehh why not. Go change first. I don't want you dripping all over my house."
"Okay," he says running towards his house. He looks so cute with the snowflakes in his hair. Maybe I should ask him to the dance....
