"Atan'Eko," she said almost whispering but loud enough for him to hear.

"Ney'ite but what a pleasure to see you again." He replied approaching her.

As soon as she saw that he was approaching her, she moved in the opposite direction. Since that night she had changed, she was not the same helpless little girl and she should have realized it.

"It’s far from a pleasure for me. I should ask you what you’re doing here."

"I was passing by and I decided to visit you." Atan said, a grin appeared on his face.

"Look, you could have avoided that." She replied harshly

"Nah, you’ve changed, you know."

"No look I didn’t notice!" Ney'ite exclaimed sarcastically.

Meanwhile, as the two kept talking, in the background Neteyam was watching them in astonishment. He couldn’t quite understand why they were arguing. So he decided to end his questions and ask Tsireya.

"Tsireya why are they acting like this?"

"Oh Neteyam!" she sighed and resumed." The story behind it is too long to tell now. But I think you can tell I’m not on the best of terms."

"Yes, but I wanted an answer to my question. And what you gave me only upset my ideas more."

Neteyam was eager to find out what happened between his girlfriend and that guy named Atan'Eko. To think there might have been something between them that made his blood boil. He turned to look at them, he noticed the way Ney'ite looked at him, he might seem hard as a rock but inside he was afraid. Afraid of what, Neteyam thought.

"Neteyam I’m sorry, but I’m not the one to tell you. It wouldn’t be fair to my sister."

Neteyam nodded only to turn around to look at the two who were starting to fight heavily.

"No! You’re leaving now! YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO BE HERE!" Ney'ite shouted, pointing several times to the sea, trying to make him understand that he was not welcome there.

"Tsk. Never, ever you will get rid of me, you understand?" Atan'Eko  clenched his fists and approached her with a threatening air.

At that moment Ney'ite was like a flashback, she seemed to be living the same scene as when she left her in her marui alone. But this time she was not alone. Suddenly in front of her stood a person, Neteyam. He would defend her with his own life.

"Hey you! Get out of the way, it’s between me." Atan pointed to himself. " And she." He then pointed to Ney'ite who had leaned behind Neteyam and held on tight to him.

"Look, I don’t know who you are, but leave her alone. Don’t make me repeat it again." He pointed his finger at him and in response Atan laughed.

"You think I’m afraid of you," Atan laughed. " Look, you don’t scare me, and you Ney'ite could have chosen the boy better."

There Neteyam no longer saw from anger and grabbed the necklace around Atan’s neck, holding it as strong as possible. The beads that formed it suddenly fell off and fell on the sand.

"Enough! Stop acting like five-year-old children!" This time it was Tsireya who talked, tired of watching them fight.

Atan raised his hands in a sign of surrender and then pushed Neteyam away from him. He looked at everyone and then left muttering something between himself.

Neteyam turned to look at Ney'ite. She looked sad, empty.
In fact for Ney'ite that had reopened a wound that with time she had managed to close, but in less than a minute seeing him, it reopened completely.
He approached his girlfriend and hugged her, squeezed her hard to make her feel safe. Ney'ite did not hesitate and immediately returned the embrace. She got close enough to him to whisper in his ear.

"Come, I need to talk to you."

Neteyam nodded. Under the gaze of all the others the two lovers released the embrace and left without saying anything.

They walked hand in hand along the beach for a few tens of minutes before finally arriving at the cave. It’s been a long time since Ney'ite stepped foot in it last time. They both went in and sat on a rock that was near the water.

Ney'ite took a deep breath, looked at Neteyam and said.
"So I ask you one thing, one thing. When I talk please don’t interrupt me, okay?"

"Yes, of course, my love." Neteyam took his hands and held them tightly in hers.

Ney'ite started. " Okay. It all started about two years ago when Atan'Eko’s family came to visit my parents. Here his family consists of six people: his sisters, a major and a minor, him and his parents; of all I immediately noticed him and he also noticed me." She stopped because she was beginning to remember details she had almost removed from her memory.

She took another deep breath and continued.

"I’ll spare you certain details, in summary he and I thought we loved each other, that we would start a family together, even our parents thought so."

Neteyam’s face at that time assumed an expression of disgust that made Ney'ite laugh.

"Skxawng, don’t look at me like that!" She immediately got serious, stopped laughing and started talking again.

"Until one night when out of nowhere he changed, he became violently angry with me. That night I really feared for my life."

Her eyes quickly filled with tears that she tried to make come out. She didn’t want to cry about that thing, she had to be strong, if she cried, she’d give it to Atan, and that was the last thing she wanted to do. With one arm she wiped her tears and, without a second thought, rushed into Neteyam’s arms. She needed a hug from him, like the one he gave her on the beach, one to reassure her, to calm her down.

"Shh, baby, it’s okay." Neteyam said as he gently stroked her head, passing his hand through the girl’s curly hair.

"That’s just a bad memory, you don’t have to think about it because that’s the past. Think about now, the present and the future. Think of us, of what we will do together. I will never leave you Ney'ite, never."

Ney'ite smiled at his words, she had never loved a person as much as she loved Neteyam.

"I love you Neteyam, with all my heart."

"I love you too Ney'ite, with all my heart." He kissed her forehead and then her lips making her giggle.

Even though many things had happened that day, they had quarreled, they loved each other very much.
The two lay down side by side, and tired Ney'ite fell asleep in Neteyam’s arms. He kissed her forehead and then closed his eyes and fell asleep.

The night fell quickly and in the village, strangely enough, no one had bothered about where they were. Tsireya had managed to convince her mother that they were well and that the next morning she would return.

As the moon rose high in the sky, the two slept blissfully embraced.
