The evening of the same day, after dinner, Ney'ite was returning alone to her marui when someone stopped her placing his hand on her arm, it was Atan'Eko .

"What do you want now, Atan." She asked him after removing his hand from her arm.

"Nothing, I just wanted to see you." He said.

"I don't believe you, I know you all too well. And then I can tell when you’re lying." She looked at him better and added. " You see, your eyebrows frown and also." She took a bracelet in her hands that was on his wrist. " And you start fiddling with this bracelet."

"How do you remember all these details." Atan was quite surprised that she still remembered them. It had been years since they last met.

"Dear Atan, you haven’t changed a bit. And then all the time we’ve been together you’ve been lying to me."

She tried to leave but he anticipated her moves and stood in front of her, blocking her shoulders with his hands.

"Look, Ney, that’s the past, now I’ve changed. You really have to believe me." At that moment he took his hands off the girl’s shoulders and let her go. But before she could leave, he said. "Please think about it."

"I won’t fall into your trap again." Ney'ite almost angrily said, trying to leave, but Atan grabbed her arm and tried to hold her.

Ney'ite hissed and said. "Lonu oe 'aku!" (let go of me)

"Could we ever go back?" Atan asked, thinking back to the good old days when they were still together.

"Kehe, set tare Neteyam." (No, now i have have Neteyam.)
She took a little break then shot it again in a colder, harsher tone." Then like you said, that’s the past so we’ll never get back to the past."

"Never?"

"Never. I don’t want to talk anymore, bye Atan'Eko."

He whispered something so low that Ney'ite couldn’t hear it or maybe he had pretended not to hear, and went on to get to the marui as soon as possible. She really needed to rest, she was too tired. The speech with Atan had upset her brain, she didn't know to believe him or not. Absolutely not! She didn’t want to fall back into his trap again and then she now had Neteyam. Even her grandmother Marali had warned her, before dying, that one day he would return. The real reason of his return was still unknown to her, maybe she should have talked to her parents, maybe they knew something. In fact, they most likely knew something. At that moment, however, she did not want to talk and, even if she wanted to, the conversation she had had before had made her change her mind.

As soon as she entered the marui she headed for her cot. She lay down, looked at the moon, turning all her thoughts to it, then closed her eyes and fell into a deep sleep.

The next morning Ney'ite woke up early, earlier than usual, to get the day off to a good start. She changed quickly and left the marui. She didn’t know exactly where to go, she needed to go as far as possible. She had to clear her head and being close to the village at that moment she just didn’t like it. At first she thought of going to the cave, but she knew that they could easily find her there, so she decided to go to a place she had never told anyone about. It was a small lake that stood in the middle of the forest that gave its back to the village. That place was so important to her that she kept it hidden even from Tsireya. Before she died, her grandmother and she loved walking in the woods and then arriving at their little secret place. They only went there when Ney'ite was not well and could not stay in the village in contact with other people. The dreams she had every night had made her feel psychologically ill and have sudden mood swings.

She passed through the trees trying not to scratch herself with the sharp branches of some brambles. After passing through various bushes, Ney'ite arrived in front of the banks of the small body of water. It was surrounded by large flowers of various shapes and colors, some curled and neutral colors, others high and bright colors. She sat on a rock near the shore of the small pond, dipping her feet in the still cold water from the night. She stood there for a few minutes thinking about everything that had happened in the last few weeks, from the arrival of the Sullys, to her feelings for Neteyam and finally to the return of Atan'Eko. Her mind was very confused, too many things were spinning in her head. When she least expected it, she saw a shadow around her.

"Grandma? Is that you?" Ney'ite asked with a little fright in her voice. In herself she was not frightened because it was her grandmother, but because her spirit was spinning around her.

A slight breeze caressed her face, along with it she could hear a soft voice say. "Rä'ä txopu si, tsal tam frawzo, in time you'll understand why." (Do not be afraid, it'll be ok.)

The last words Ney'ite heard made her jump. They were the same words she had heard in the dream she had; could it be a coincidence? Absolutely not. Around her turned the dry petals fallen from the flowers, lifted by the breeze that suddenly stopped.

"Hey! No, don’t go." Ney'ite started going around trying to follow the wind trying to stop it.

"I still need your help!" Without realizing it, she fell into the pond that was quite deep. When she opened her eyes she saw the last thing she expected.

She opened and closed her eyes several times, incredulous by what she was seeing. In the dark of the bottom, two lights were dancing together. Ney'ite tried to get as close as possible, as soon as she was close enough she was dazzled by a strong light. At that moment she saw her whole life passing in front of her like a train, she saw her as a child when she swam for the first time and also she and her grandmother walking together along the shore. She saw all her best memories until the light turned to a deep red and she started seeing the worst moments. From the fight with Atan'Eko to the time she was almost killed by a Tulkun. Suddenly it returned color and became white, there she saw what was supposed to be her future. Her eyes widened when she saw herself on her ilu but with an extra something, she seemed to be pregnant. At that moment she missed her breath and had to quickly swim to the surface. As soon as she came out she began to breathe heavily both from the air she was missing and from the shock of what she had just seen. Ney'ite did not wait a minute more and came out of the water running straight towards her marui, looking for her mother. This thing, out of all, she couldn’t keep to herself.
