Impatiently Ney'ite was turning back and forth along the beach. She had been waiting for Neteyam for ten minutes. They decided to meet that day to talk and spend time together.
She thought for a few minutes that he wouldn’t show up, but he would never do that. She stopped by sending to beat her leg repeatedly on the sand going to make a hole under her feet. She immediately covered it with sand and moved to lean against a palm tree to shelter from the sun that was beating hard on her.

The minutes passed and there were no traces of Neteyam. Ney'ite felt teased, she was hurt, indeed, very badly. She never thought he wouldn't have shown up. Just as she was about to leave she saw a figure coming from afar. Neteyam stopped in front of her trying to take a breath from the race she had just done.

As soon as he had enough breath in his body, he spoke to her. "Sorry, Ney'ite, really. Tuk got hurt, so my mom forced me to stay with her."

"I waited for you for almost an hour."

"I know, Ney'ite really, I'm sorry." He tried to apologize but Ney'ite interrupted him.

"Let me finish please." She said as she approached the boy. " I was saying, I waited a long time but I didn’t leave. I didn’t leave because I’d wait days to see you, understand?"

"I thought you were angry." His voice was confused, he couldn’t understand how she wasn’t angry with him.

"No, I’m not skxawng!" Ney'ite laughed and then slapped Neteyam on the shoulder.

In laughter she approached him and hugged him tightly. She leaned her head against his chest and could feel his heartbeat accelerate. She smiled slightly because of the effect it had on him.

"Neteyam, I wish I’d known you before."

"We have plenty of time to get to know each other, Ney'ite." Neteyam smiled at her thinking about how much time they would spend together, that they would be together until they were old.

"Unfortunately no, we don’t have Neteyam."
She said, sadness in her voice.

"It’s a long story, but I wanted you to know." She took a long breath and then said:"Years ago, about when I was 10, I started having dreams. Not normal dreams, but premonitory dreams. What I saw then came true. As they started to increase I started to feel bad. My brain couldn’t take it anymore, and I had a lot of physical and mental problems. Over time they decreased but, months ago, they started again. I even dreamed of your arrival. A day ago, I dreamt of a tragedy, a village on fire."

Tears began to scratch her face but she became strong and continued to speak.

"I’m sick Neteyam, I can’t do anything about it. Even you can’t do anything about it. Eywa made me like this and so I’ll die."

Neteyam immediately embraced her and refrained from crying. What he had just heard had made him sick.
Ney'ite was afraid of not being able to live long, to go back to being like the previous years. Eywa had given birth to her like this, those who for Ney'ite were defects for Eywa were merits. But she would never understand, not even at the last moment she had left.

"So let’s not bother, let’s spend more time together. Let’s make every moment a beautiful memory. I am convinced Ney'ite, that even after death we will be together again. You and I. Forever."

At that moment Ney'ite understood the reason for her dreams. She understood why Eywa had brought them together. Neteyam was her savior, arrived to cheer her up even in the darkest moments. Like a phenix he was making her rise from the ashes that were her past.

She smiled, placing her hands gently on the boy’s cheeks in front of her. She looked closely at him, realizing that he would lead her to salvation. That she had met her soul mate.
