For now you have only been told how Ney'ite felt, but now it seems right to talk about Neteyam.
The evening of the same day Neteyam was walking back and forth in his marui trying to find some peace. He was alone, he could finally have time to think and rest. Since he and his family had left their home everything had become stressful. Before, the journey that had seemed to him to last an infinity and that had made him very tired. The arrival was even more difficult than leaving home, they were in an unknown land where they were nothing but strangers or intruders. In a short time he had to get used to the life of the Metkayina tribe, to their different way of seeing life and the respect they had for the sea and all that lived within it. The sea to and from the sea takes, Ney'ite had repeated this phrase to him all the times when he was about to surrender.
The chief’s daughter had quickly become for Neteyam the only way to distract himself from the hard and difficult life, which does not look in the face of anyone. Ney'ite had a different way of seeing the world and the life that surrounded her, he thought that sooner or later everything must end, in a beautiful or ugly way. Eywa gave life to those who deserved it most and twisted against those who despised the gift he had received. Because seeing is a gift, not everyone sees the same way, there are those who underestimate situations and those who overestimate them. But in the end, you always go back to where you were born, with Eywa. The eldest son of the Sullys sat on the spot of the marui facing the ocean. She dipped her legs in warm, transparent water and moved back and forth. He looked at the dismayed sky of so many small stars that looked like dots. His father had arrived from one of those stars. But what would have happened if he had never arrived on Pandora, reflected Neteyam. Maybe they shouldn’t have run away from their house but he wouldn’t have been born, so it wouldn’t have changed much.
His reflection was interrupted by the arrival of a person behind him. Neteyam turned to see who he was, hoping it was Ney'ite. But as soon as he saw that it was Kiri and not her the smile that had formed in his face immediately disappeared and his sister noticed him.
"You hoped it was someone else, didn’t you?" She asked him even though she already knew the answer to her question.
"No, I wasn’t hoping it was anyone." He stopped looking up at the sky and turned towards his sister. " I wanted to spend time alone."
"Then I'm leaving." Kiri made to get up but was immediately blocked by Neteyam who grabbed her arm.
"No, you stay."
"Just make up your mind." she joked by hitting his arm with her shoulder.
In the distance, Ney'ite was passing, taking her walk after sunset. She was carefree and, after talking to Lo'ak, she had not spoken to anyone, not even to Neteyam. She stopped suddenly when she saw Neteyam joking with his sister Kiri, smiling at seeing that scene. She knew they had a good relationship, but she never got to see how much they loved each other. She smiled as she watched them push each other, thinking back to when she was little and playing with Aonung. Thinking about this, she remembered that she hadn’t spoken to him for a long time, perhaps too long.
Ney'ite resumed walking quietly along the beach. She watched as the sun gradually disappeared beyond the sea and the sky turned orange. As she walked a figure stood before her, preventing her from moving forward.
"Ney'ite I need to talk to you." Atan'Eko told her. Knowing what she would say, he didn’t give her time to talk and shoot. " I’m leaving tomorrow, I’m going back to my village."
Ney'ite remained silent not knowing what to say. As she had not understood the reason for his arrival, at the moment she did not understand why he suddenly left. Something had to have happened. Maybe he had been sent by someone, she thought.
Receiving no response from the girl, Atan'Eko spoke again.
"I’m sorry." Those words caught the attention of the girl who immediately raised her head.
"Do you mind?"
"Yes, for everything. Truly Ney'ite you must believe me." He tried to convince her but Ney'ite remained impassive to her words. They went in and out of her ears.
"Long ago I would have forgiven you, I was too good to everyone." She sighed, looking away from him. " But now, no, I would never forgive you. Atan you, you ruined my life. You could apologize a million times but I would never forgive you."
"But I change-"
Ney'ite snapped, rage in her eyes. "No you’re not. I saw it in your eyes, you have the same kind and above all selfish look. You don’t think about yourself. I repeat, I don’t forgive you."
"Please Ney'ite let me explain." he tried again, taking her hand and wrapping her with his.
She just made a disgusting noise, took her hand out of his.
"Don’t you dare touch me!" She looked him in the eye. She looked at him carefully, some time ago they would have softened her but at that moment she could only see the eyes of a liar.
"Go away! Go away, now!" With all the strength that Atan'Eko had pushed as far away from her as possible, she slammed him into a palm tree. As soon as she did this, she ran away, ignoring his constant calls.
She stopped running as soon as she was sure she was not being followed. Suddenly she fell to the ground and cried, crying all the tears in her body. She needed to vent, and that was the only way to do it.
Suddenly two arms clasped her body from behind tightly. Ney'ite looked up and crossed Neteyam’s. She immediately tried to wipe the tears from her face but he stopped her.
"Don’t worry, you’re already so beautiful, you don’t need to dry your tears." He drew his forefinger to the girl’s face and gradually wiped away all the tears that kept falling down her face. " This is not a sign of weakness Ney'ite, you must not think so. I will always be there for you, every moment."
Ney'ite smiled at the boy’s phrase. In his arms she felt safe. He had seen her in one of the worst moments, in fact, when Ney'ite cried she never let other people see her. But he had seen her and accepted her as she was.
Their foreheads approached until they touched.Meanwhile the moon had risen completely into the sky and was enveloping Ney'ite and Neteyam with its light rays.
