——————————🕷️——————————Wednesday stood in the quad with all the other students, looking at the book, when Principal Weems got everyone's attention.
"All students will report for their volunteer jobs at 10:00 am sharp, followed by a community lunch at 1:00." She announced.
Wednesday put the book back in his backpack and turned to face Weems.
"As you know, this years Outreach Day culminates in a very special event, the dedication of a new memorial statue in the town square, which will also include performances by Nevermore students."
All the students murmured in excitement at that.
"As representatives of our school, I trust you will all put your best face forward."
Two faceless students glanced at each other.
The staff walked towards the crowd of students and handed each of them an envelope that explained their volunteer jobs.
Enid and (Y/n) excitedly walked over to Wednesday.
"Yes, we got Pilgrim World." Enid squealed. "I do have natural people skills and a love of performing, so it's kinda the obvi choice."
(Y/n) smiled at Enid's enthusiasm, then looked at Wednesday. "What'd you get?"
Wednesday opened his envelope. "Uriah's Heap, whatever that is." He said.
(Y/n) was slightly disappointed that Wednesday wasn't going to be Outreaching with her, but didn't let it show.
Enid grimaced. "It's this weird creepy antique store. You'll love it though. I'm crossing my claws Ajax and I will be outreaching together."
Enid looked over at Ajax, who glanced back at her, smiling.
Enid grabbed (Y/n)'s hand and pulled her away just as Principal Weems approached Wednesday.
"Wednesday, don't worry about your cello. I'll have it brought to the town square this afternoon." She told him.
Wednesday looked at her confused. "My cello?"
"I caught your rooftop serenade the other night. Impressive. I volunteered you to accompany the Jericho High School marching band at the ceremony. I'm sure it won't be too challenging to play an uplifting Fleetwood Mac melody." Weems smiled.
"As long as you promise to hang me as a witch afterwards." Wednesday replied.
...
A black school bus parked at a curb in Jericho, and all the Nevermore students hopped out of the bus. When Wednesday climbed out, he turned and noticed Xavier staring at a brick wall that had a white square painted on it.
"Why are you staring at a blank wall?" Wednesday asked as he approached Xavier.
"It wasn't blank last Outreach Day." Xavier grumbled.
Wednesday noticed his sour mood. "Are you still stewing because I rejected your invitation?"
Xavier shrugged. "I don't know, I did go out on a limb for you."
